This past weekend, out of incredible boredom, I picked up and read for the umpteenth time Ray Bradbury's classic sci-fi novel "Farenheit 451" about a future society where books are banned and a fireman named Montag, who earns his living burning books, getting a crisis of conscience.
The ending always gets me, with Montag joining a secret society of "living books"; people who because books are banned have each committed a book they've loved and cherished to memory, word for word, even passing them down to future generations until the day when books can finally be printed again.
I've always wondered if I were one of the "living books" society, like in the story, which one would I be. I guess if I were, I'd probably be Allen Ginsberg's Selected Poems from 1947-1995. His poetry helped change the world, inspiring me to write poetry of my own. And I would feel obligated to carry his work through a dark age such as that.
Which brings me to a question I've been itching to ask all of you devoted blog lovers. Having a favorite book says a lot about a person. If you could be a living book, like in Farenheit 451, what would your title be? I'm interested in hearing your responses.

Wow,,, good question. I'd have to pick more than one.
Naturally, professionally, it would be CFR.1910 and CFR 1926,,,,cause I already know most of it by heart anyway.
Privately, it would be Flags of our Fathers, Bradley.... story of the family, and a testiment to sacrafices of the greatest generation.
Of course, it could also be, Corporate Negaholic - Carter - Scott.

I'm sure if I thought long and hard, I could come up with a few. Instead, I will post the one that came to mind immediately.

Seems to me like an "easy out" to a difficult question....but what better book to commit to memory in such a society than "Farenheit 451"?
Piers Anthony's "Bio of a Space Tyrant" is my all-time favourite series, so it'd be a "top 10" pick. Either that, or perhaps something from Heinlein.
Fact is, if I could even remember my own phone #, I'd be happy. A whole book? Ain't gonna happen.
