Liberals And Auto Industry Scam Taxpayers

It's ironic to begin with that it should be liberals/Democrats -- who purport to be opposed to big business profits -- should be on the side of bailing out Detroit auto makers. But it's clear that the Democrats in Congress are leading the charge to confiscate taxpayer money to hand to these thieves.

Gee, I wonder why that is? Could it be because the United Auto Workers Union, which has used strong arm tactics to soak the auto industry dry for decades, ensuring that our industry could not compete in a global market, is a major contributor to Democrats?

Then there is the BS about "greener cars," yet another hoax that both Democrats and the auto industry collude to push on the public.

When the arrogant executives from Detroit came around the first time to ask for billions in taxpayer money, they had the nerve to fly to the meeting in private jets. Even worse, they came without even having any kind of business plan whatsoever. They essentially said "give us $25 billion, or there is going to be big trouble."

This seems to be the way business is done is the US auto industry. Whether it is the management or the unions, it's all about using threats to get what you want. It's no longer about building a better mouse trap or increasing productivity. For both the unions and the management its about "give us whatever we want, or else."

Management had the unmitigated gall to come to Washington to demand billions of dollars of your money and mine, and they didn't even think they would need to show us a plan. All they figured they would need to do is to scare us with what might happen to the economy if we don't give them the money.

Anyway, back to the greener car hoax.

So the rumor is that this time, when Detroit comes back to extort the money from us, they are going to drive to Washington in a fleet of "green" cars. Green cars? Let's see.

GM and Liberals are having seizures over this new electric car that is supposed to be available in 2010 called the Chevy Volt. It is suppose to become the revolutionary prototype for cost saving and environmentally friendly cars.

I just went to the GM Web site and here is what it says about this car:

Chevy Volt is designed to move more than 75 percent of America's daily commuters without a single drop of gas. That means for someone who drives less than 40 miles a day, Chevy Volt will use zero gasoline and produce zero emissions.

Question 1: Zero emissions? Where do you think the care gets the electric power to run its batteries from? What about the emissions produced to create that electricity? And what about the environmental impact of all of those batteries? Not even a mention about that from either the car companies OR the Democrats who are supposedly regulating them.

Question 2: What about the cost? The auto industry makes it sound like you get 40 miles for free simply because the car can run on electric instead of gas for 40 miles.

It's hard to get any technical information because the auto industry and the liberals in government who run protection for them do everything they can to bamboozle the public, but after hearing a snippet here and there, I was finally able to get the information needed to do a simple calculation:

Here are the facts I heard:
To get ("up to" and you know what that means) 40 miles, you have to charge the car for 6 hours and the charger uses about the same amount of electricity as a home hair drier.

OK, so here is what I figure. A hair drier uses about 1500 watts, which is 1.5 kilowatts. So for 6 hours that is 9 kilowatts of power used. Electricity costs about 25 cents per kilowatt where I live. So 9 kilowatts would cost about $2.25.

So that means, instead of costing NOTHING to charge my Chevy Volt, it would cost me $2.25. Huh? I'm not even sure there would be any savings at all over gas at the current price. And if gas goes up, so will the cost of electric!

So there is no discernable cost savings and dubious environmental savings at best. And on both counts, it's clear they are trying to cover up and hide these facts. I have seen many "news" stories about this car. Every one of them is a hype piece that simply repeats the words given to them in GM's press releases. Not one reporter, in all of the liberal media, has asked the obvious questions I addressed above.

It's a scam, it's a sham, it's a hoax. The car company management, the unions, the Democrats and the liberal media (who are also on the take from the car companies since they get billions in advertising dollars from them) are all in bed together, sticking it to the taxpayer and laughing all the way to the bank.

You watch... Democrats are "demanding" that Detroit build greener cars before the taxpayer money is handed over. They are going to accept this scam from Detroit as meeting that demand and hand over our money. It's all a well coordinated scam.

As far as a bailout for the Big 3, they came to Congress to play politics and warn that they were going to file for a Chapter 2 bankruptcy, which would result in their complete liquidation. I think those are empty threats and someone needs to call their bluff. Why file for Chapter 2 when they can file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, like the airlines did? Then they will be forced to streamline their operations.

I don't know much about electric cars and how far they can go on one charge, but wouldn't there be a need for charging stations everywhere the same as we have gas stations now? Can you imagine trading a 5 minute gas fill up for a several hour battery charge just to make it home? Also, what is the cost of one of those batteries and how often do they have to be replaced? I'm sure like any other battery the older it gets the less charge it holds.

I bet you, the local congressional types will either not be driving these cars, or,,,, there will be a plug for them in their reserved parking space,,,, on the taxpayer meter.

So, for them,,,, IT IS FREE....

The problem is that no one is asking any of these questions about electric cars.

It's just being shoved down our throats with the rest of the "green" scam and we are not even allowed to question it.

It's ethanol all over again. When the Scammer in Chief, Al Gore was pushing the corn based fuel thing it was supposed to be a panacea.

Nobody mentioned that it would drive up the cost of food because of a severe shortage of corn!

When the Nazis on the left want to push their political agenda on you, God help you if you should dare to ask any questions!

We don't have the technology to compete with an internal combustion engine, running on hydrogen or batteries.

Reminds me of the retoric of dumping oil for solar and wind.

To replace your grid power with solar and wind, your looking at about $5000, minimum for two people, to over $20,000 to fully run a modern home with a family of five..

Another fiasco are the regulations ranging from local building codes to 'enviormental impact' statements.
One such case is here where they fought to put wind generators and was shot down by local 'enviormentalists'.

Seems to me, some are not going to be satified until we're back to horse and buggy.

And then some clown will be complaining about the methane gas from the horse
