For the sake of posting within MD guidelines, this is a rhetorical question folks.

Earlier today a blog was posted by an unfamiliar blogger here about someone plagiarizing his work. You can read the blog here.

Frankly, I was rather appalled to learn the particular party being accused had actually plagiarized someone else’s work. She’s been blogging on MD since before I ever started participating in the blogs almost 2 year ago. Yet, there it was in black & white.

The poster of the above noted blog had linked to his original posting which had been posted one day. He had also linked to the COPIED blog posted the next day here on MD….yes, the dates of posting were right there for all to see. Still yet, another person who commented on his blog provided two more links….one to another blog on that same site, but by a different writer and one to THE SAME blog posted on this site by the same woman in question. Again, the dates of posting were right there for all to see. Basically, the only thing the woman had changed were the titles of the blogs.

What I am wondering is how many times does a person have to do something like this before people open their eyes and realize it was intentionally done? Yes, she STOLE those other writers’ blogs!

Maybe, JUST MAYBE, if it had happened ONCE, one might say “Oh she forgot to post the credit” or “Oh she failed to mention this was something she copied.” But when it occurs TWICE…sorry folks, there’s nothing left to question, in my humble opinion.

Anyone willing to give this person the benefit of the doubt doesn’t have very good judgment of their own, again, in my opinion. Not only is this person guilty of theft, she is also misrepresenting herself to readers who gave her credit for the work.

Furthermore, the party guilty of plagiarizing this man has been back online on MD today & canceled her profile, but miraculously, before canceling the profile, she took the time to delete the two plagiarized blogs she’d been called out on. Imagine that!

This is her reply to me when I ask her if she wrote the story herself:

I dislike the drug addicts and alcoholics in this apt. building. I don't mind the elderly.

To me, this was her way of saying she wrote the blog. I then sent her the url for the blog on MD from the real writer. Within minutes, she canceled or the Mods canceled her account.

A thief is a thief is a thief.....

Maybe she can take her skanky self to that other place where MDer's of Xmas past hang out now...an "invitation only" thing they have over there where they make fun of this site and many of the people on here...

Good fkn riddance...to nastylibra...and the rest of her ilk...

It's sad she stooped to that level after claiming she was a published author...BUT it was GREAT to see the "real" author come forth, especially since he wasn't a member prior to that happening.

Wonder how much of her stuff we all fell for before?

Anything to get noticed......to be admired, to be talked about...

I never understood it.....I did it once, copied my fav authors quotes to this site, I honestly forgot the link ....was called on it and took it off cause I felt guilty and ashamed. But I own up to it, admitted that it was not my work. And added the link at a later time with the qoutes agian.

If you must copy someone, agree with their words and give them credit!! Nothing wrong with that, we all qoute famous people or authors all the time. No one thought is original (well maybe not all....) it's been said before, but lets give credit!!!

I find it rather sad and disgusting that someone would go to such lengths to steal someone else's words.
To me, blogging is a personal thing although it is put out there for all to read.
My blogs will never be the idea behind any masterpiece, but they are my words, my thoughts, my life.. as mundane as it may be.
Geez......some people.....

So why you are beating a dead horse. Why. Are you perfect. The guilty party has left and I hope she will make peace with the man she did wrong. Let he or she that without sin cast the first stone.

^^^ agree with Mr. Paul ^^^

It was wrong to copy another's work and not acknowledge it, but it happens on here all the time. What does anyone expect from a DATING site - original masterpieces of writing? Jokes are copied and not accredited every day and they aren't even legitimate blogs.

Hugs Mel!

MrPaul, You never cease to amaze me.
I am not beating any horse...I am an animal lover, to say the least.
MY point, since you obviously missed it, was that people are making excuses for what the woman did, as if it were an accident....and the proof is in the pudding.

Thank you for reading & commenting on my blog. I will be posting this response in the comment section, as well. And, btw, why don't you take a cue from your own advice, sir?

I blogged earlier to address: how easy it is to steal stories found on the internet and how little is being done to protect said work.

One comment I received explained todays event was more than 'cut & paste'
The original author has personal (named) references several times in his story.
His name was removed and the woman's name was inserted.

Accidentally omitting credit reference... no. Blatant plagiarism... yes.

missliss I agree. It was intentional.

Some behind the scenes comments I have received have been quite interesting.
Seems those who do not practice what they preach take it a little hard when it's pointed out to them....and the block feature works so well on this site.

I HATE when people inscrupulous behavior comes to light, and people start to squabble about the different aspects of it...especially good people.

What she did was wrong..we know it...and she knows it, and had to leave in shame after she was found out.

I, myself, was duped, as I always enjoyed, and thanked her for her blogs. We HATE that we were all fooled, but it is over. Lets just hope others doing the same thing, will change their ways because of it. Blatent disregard for others works and feelings will be found out in time.

Missliss, in my opinion, everything you have said is right..and are justified in saying so...

MrPaul, I understand your position, also, and would expect no less than the comment you made, knowing forgiveness, and compassion is a big part of your faith...

Now...lets move on, and play nice, or I will take my ball and go home!!

PLAGERISM ---- as I scroll down the rules for blogging, there is no rule that says you can not do this. While I do not agree with the practice, by the rules, it was OK. The rules only state that you can not post COPYWRITED material.

The orignal posts that were copied, were not identifed as Copywrited. So, perfectly fine by the rules of MD to post these and claim them as your own. So this person must have left on her own accord, under the weight of either shame or a landslide of emails from other members.

Now, I know that under standard copywrite law, the copywrite is automatic upon creation. But, you really can't push your rights to anything unless the work has something like this....© 2005 Jane Doe.

Strict enforcement of the copywrite laws, "meaning, someone wrote it, copywrite is automatic, you can't post it",,, would mean the cliping of ANY post into a blog would be against the rules, even if you do site the work.

So, if you are going to be anal about your work,,,, copy and paste,,,,© 2005 Jane Doe, onto your posts.

Missliss, in my opinion, everything you have said is right..and are justified in saying so

we agree!

when we have time, we will often run through the blogging section to see if something is 'borrowed' or stolen. we get a lot of criticism for deleting that kind of material, but outright plagiarism is not only immoral and misleading to the reader, it's also illegal.

we ask that if something is being shared from a 'non-original source' that it be tagged as such and posted in quotes (jokes/forwarded emails/greeting card 'poems'/material in the public domain/etc) and that credit be given to the author and source, if known.

copyrighted material gets a little dicey. at the least, full credit and source must be included along with a link, if possible. (we suggest that authors here add 'copyright' at the bottom of their original work to help protect themselves if they are concerned.) song lyrics are the property of the performers/lyricists without a doubt. there is always the chance that their legal teams will take action (fair warning).

anyone posting anything on this site is responsible for what they post, which includes the responsibility to assure themselves that it's legal. while we have rather liberal moderation on this site, we are not censors (or babysitters). when we are informed, tho, we will remove plagiarized material that we may have missed.

we don't want to patrol this site with a heavy hand (we don't have the resources or staff to do so 24/7) and have given our members the credit for conducting themselves as adults. plagiarism is a subject addressed in freshman year of high school, if not before as well as after. 'stealing' is usually addressed not only in school, but at home as well as all over the internet. plagiarism is stealing another persons words. it's not cool and when it's discovered, it can be awfully embarassing.

plagiarism

noun
1. a piece of writing that has been copied from someone else and is presented as being your own work
2. the act of plagiarizing; taking someone's words or ideas as if they were your own

plagiarism

Literary theft. Plagiarism occurs when a writer duplicates another writer's language or ideas and then calls the work his or her own. Copyright laws protect writers' words as their legal property. To avoid the charge of plagiarism, writers take care to credit those from whom they borrow and quote.

Note: Similar theft in music or other arts is also called plagiarism.

What he said

...And people wonder why I just post crap on here

I thought before no one would want to steal my "stupid" blogs. But they did. It just goes to show...Some people have no concept of what is real or not on the internet. I don't know R.L. that well. She was on my friends list for a long time but I've rarely spoken to her on here. I missed the blog that all the excitement was about. I hate to say it but I'm glad I did. I'm also glad the original writer took steps to make sure everyone knew it was his work.

...I should of done that when my blogs were taken from here.

Ya know, the world went to hell when they outlawed public hangings. A couple baskets of fried chicken, some potato salad, maybe some corn-on-the-cob and a good view of the stretching....then they had the nerve to stick some societal stain on dragging people through the street naked....although, in this case, she's old so the naked part is just too cruel to those that would be partaking in the dragging.

The skeezer took a piece of this guy, someone who put their heart and soul into writing a piece that touched the hearts of many. Her black fkng heart, as empty as it apparently is, decided to criminally steal this guys soul. When you write something, you're giving people something of yours. Instead of crafting it with your hands, you craft it with something that is unique in all of us...our minds. The windowlicker in question has an empty brain-sack, a vessel for criminal intent. I'm sure she's no different in her relationships, intimate or otherwise. She deserves no pity...she deserves to wallow in her pus-infested shell of a life. This was no fkng accident, this was a calculated effort to steal someones work, she's a thief and a piece of shit.

Let he or she that (sic) without sin cast the first stone.

Duck, baby, duck!

I always cite sources, limit my resort to fair use and usually post only the url.
But whenever I have called attention to plagiarism, I get either silence or bonehead rationalizations:
"it came in an Email ... This is the Internet .... There are no rules .... Who appointed you? " etc.

Thanks to you all for standing up to this and sending the culprit away.

How often do you see jokes, that you heard as a kid, copy-pasted and posted by people your age, as if they were brand-new? And how often do you see people your age respond in effect "Wow! That's a good one!"? Well, for this sort of Amnesia, I doubt the notion of copyright makes much impression.

So Lissy, are you being attacked in email as hard as I was when I called out another blogger here for plagiarism? Are people telling you that you're nothing but a btch and should just lay off? How about, "It wasn't YOUR words that were stolen, so what are you so pissed off about?" Yea, I got it all.

First of all, let me say this loud and clear.

People that support plagiarizers are no better then the thieves they support!!!

This woman plagiarized at LEAST two blogs that we know of. I know that she was a rather prolific blogger, but if you look now, there is only ONE page of blogs. The rest of "her" blogs are gone...deleted before she canceled her account, I'm sure. How many of the deleted blogs do you think were stolen? This wasn't a one time thing, folks. She's a repeat offender. That makes her exactly what PMF said. A thief and a piece of shit.

Geez, it's no wonder I'm finding myself on this site less and less.

KUDOS, Lissy.

^5 liss. You always get anger when you point out someone breaking
copyright laws. I got that response myself several times but it happens
SO much here with poems and song lyrics that I'd never post a blog here
or any other internet place, I only share that type of thing with friends.

The person that wrote it OWNS it.
If you copy it you are breaking the copyright.

Now, I know that under standard copywrite law, the copywrite is automatic upon creation. But, you really can't push your rights to anything unless the work has something like this....© 2005 Jane Doe.

In the writing/publishing community, it is a "law" that texts are automatically copy-righted.
Or else.... any text submitted to a publisher could get published under another name than the original author (and the publisher would never need to pay anything to the submitting author.....)

Writers know that.
Writers can sue a publisher who published a text from them without paying and without giving them credit (there are publications that publish and distribute your work, but do not pay you....), if they only submitted it for accepting or rejection.

So.... taking somebody else's work and publishing it under one's name is against copy-right law, whether the text in question has been "more" copy-righted or not...
And if it's not especially mentioned in the MD rules, that does not change the original law....
