| My wife recently died after a long illness. It has been a long time since I went anywhere other than to the hospital or the doctor and I need to get my life restarted. I used to love to travel - everything from a day trip to San Diego or Solvang to two or three days in Carmel, San Francisco or Las Vegas to a week at the beach in the Caribbean to a month driving across the US, Canada or Europe. I intend to try again and see if they still have the allure. I have been to Mardi Gras several times and would like to see Carnival in Rio. I like the LA equivalent of off Broadway and I’d like to see if current playwrights are as interesting as they used to be. A good meal in a nice restaurant would be nice instead of a hurried meal in a coffee shop. Maybe even a movie although I got disillusioned with them when people started talking through them just as though they were watching TV at home and I suspect that cell phones have only exacerbated the problem. I am a voracious reader. Currently, I read mostly mystery, suspense and espionage novels but if they aren’t handy, I will read anything that is available. I get a lot of exercise of the opportunistic kind. I do a lot of yard work and I use hand tools instead of power tools and I never take the car when I can use the bicycle. I get bored easily so I’ve never found a form of organized exercise which I can do for very long. The very word rep causes my eyes to glaze over. |
