| Intellectual Interloper (not looking) |
| about myself: |
I'm not looking for someone to hook up with. I'm here for the forums, blogs, and my friends.
My Ph.D. is in theoretical physics, but I currently work on Wall street in quantitative finance. I love music (esp. jazz), food, reading and deep conversations. I'm shy around people I don't know and crowds, but definitely open up when I feel more comfortable with the person I'm with. I'm an unabashed geek, computer programmer, mathematician, physicist, and Mensa member: an intellectual to the bone. I have an insatiable desire to learn everything about everything, and have a curiosity about the world around me and all that's in it. I have yet to find any subject uninteresting and would enjoy talking about English lit or formal philosophy as much as I'd enjoy talking about non-commutative geometry or gauge theories. Learning new things and improving myself is a driving force behind what makes me who I am.
I have a keen interest in (liberal) politics and a very persistent sense of humor that ranges from goofy to very dry and everything in between; I love to make people laugh. I have a highly developed sense of sensuality and am somewhat of a hedonist.
I've been taking a lot of Salsa lessons and enjoy Salsa dancing immensely. I get to dance, be close to, and kiss a wide variety of pretty girls. Plus it's a lot of fun, challenging, and great exercise. I enjoy dancing a whole lot. It's one of the few venues where men have the advantage over women in dating since there's so few of us who really enjoy dancing.
Despite my education, conservative profession, and intellect, people regard me as down to earth and unpretentious, and I definitely have a fairly impish side to me. I love the offbeat, the quirky, and the paths less traveled.
I've been reading about Buddhism lately; it appeals to me on many different levels. |

| about my work: |
I'm a Wall street quant/programmer. I love my job and company. Each day is a new learning experience for me, and my co-workers are awesome, brilliant people. It's the closest thing to grad school I've seen in the "real" world.
Being a physics researcher may have been fun, but the day I left the classroom to join Wall street, my pay doubled. A fair trade, considering that being a professor was more fun than quantitative finance. |

| my idea of a great date: |
Note: Not looking for a relationship other than friends. I'm here for the friends I've made on MD, blogs, and forums.
First dates suck, but they're made much better when both people admit they suck and can laugh about it. A good date involves some measure of interactivity, so movies make an *awful* first date. They also allow some measure of escape when conversation doesn't come easily with that stranger standing next to you. So spending 5 hours in a coffee shop is out too.
Oddly enough, I've found that the best dates I've ever had were at children's museums. They had just the right amount of interactive opportunities as well as opportunities to do your own thing for awhile.
Adults' museums are also good, but not as good as childrens' museums because they're usually a bit too serious and have a bit too much reading and a bit too uninteractive.
I hope it's not too morose to say that roaming old cemetaries also make great dates. Looking at headstones from the 1700's and reading what they have to say about the people is fun, and allows for some great interactivity "Hey, look at this one!" but also for wandering to do your own thing in between the interaction. |

I like women who are "touchy-feely" and enjoy lots of hand holding, hugging, hair caressing, and cuddling. My ideal match would be romantic but low maintenance and appreciate, if not enjoy, my geeky sense of humor.
Like me, she should be a professional (so we can do that dual-income thing in this expensive city and save for our kids' education) but down to earth. Hopefully she likes motorcycles.
I don't like sarcasm; it's an impedment towards good communication which is essential in a healthy relationship. I love people who smile and laugh freely. |
