I've been alternately described an academic, an artist, an intellectual, a spiritualist, a Buddhist, a Taoist, goth, punk, emo, new bohemian, old soul, young upstart, nerd, brain, pagan, poet... yeah, color me hard to pin down.
An interest in art, books, and especially film and music (I'm an ex-DJ and working my way westward for film work) are important to me, but more than that, someone who can be as intellectually stimulating as they are emotionally and physically appealing (if not more so). I've met plenty of wonderful people who failed to provide that specific missing piece and I've learned how vital it is in the process. If you're going to send me a response full of misspellings, can't put together a proper sentence with both hands, or think that "r" and "u" qualify as words, well, no offense, but I'm probably not the right person for you.
I'm a historical reenactor with the SCA, so definite nerd points there. Not much of a sports fan unless its in terms of joining a pickup game, but beyond that, I'm the one who watches the Superbowl for the commercials. The two exceptions to the rule being that I'm becoming a regular (along with some of my fellow SCA members) at the Detroit Roller Derby and that I love to play Irish Hurling (a sport bigger in Boston and New Jersey than here in Detroit). Sadly I only get to do the later once or twice a year while I'm on vacation out east. I enjoy cooking, especially baked goods, and tend to treat it like an experiment, both in the sense of constantly trying something new and in changing recipes over and over again until I get them right (currently I'm working on the perfect Cuban tres leche cake).

Sometimes we have to do what we must in order to do the things we love. There's a big difference between my job and my occupation. Working as a chemical and disease specialist in a local plant nursery pays the bills but it's certainly not what I'd consider my calling (though I do love my job).
My actual occupation is as a filmmaker and a writer, it's what I love, and it's what I consider my calling in life to be (despite the fact that there's not enough work available in the Michigan area). That's the goal I'm out there following right now, whether it's here or out of state in the end. |

I'm fairly adaptable when it comes to dates. As a coffee junkie, a trip to the local Carribou or mom and pop cafe (I abhore Starbucks) followed by an afternoon hunting down used books at John K. King (one of Detroit's largest bookshops) always sounds good to me. I'm also something of a nature lover though, so a spring or fall afternoon full of hiking or a day of skiing in the winter works just as well.
The usual dinner and a movie date is something I probably wouldn't venture out on till I knew someone really did share my tastes (plus who wants a first date full of two hours of silence?). The first moments are all about getting to know one another, looking into someone's eyes and meeting what's there for the very first time wherever that may be. It's often less about the activity and more about finding that perfect moment in that perfect spot to suddenly break down the nervous social walls between two people. |
