Unique guy, looking for a different kind of lady
about myself:
I'm afraid that I'm too unique for my own good. First, I am a Christian. Please note that I am NOT a bible thumper, I don't even attend church regularly. But I do have strong personal beliefs regarding the role of God in our Iives.
I read extensively. I suscribe to Smithsonian, National Geographic, Discovery, and Astronomy magazines. Sounds nerdy, huh? BUT, I enjoy outdoor activities like hiking, climbing, and camping. I discovered snow skiing a few years ago, and I like that, too. I am fairly active, and it is difficult to find someone with whom I can share these things. I love road trips. I have been known to head for the grocery store and not come back for two weeks.
I never watch TV. Too busy with other stuff. A movie now and then, though, if I can find someone to go with...
I am a science teacher. I began teaching school at age 42, and have found that it is the true passion of my life. I was a union plumber for the 23 years prior to that, and I still work in the trade when I'm not teaching. Also, I am in the Navy reserves, and am terribly proud of my affiliation with the military. I have three children who are all out of the house (I had custody), and now five grandchildren. Yes, this pleases me greatly.
I am a gentleman, and I would love to find the right lady. I realize that my style is out of style, but I don't really care. I am no good at the dating game things that people do, which is why I'm on this site writing now. I'm not particularly "cool", nor do I have any desire to meet someone else's standard of cool. I happen to like myself as I am. Although I have not always been so, I am honest, ethical, and I care about other people.
I was once asked by a friend what things I would buy if I had a million dollars. For me, it isn't about HAVING things, it's about DOING things. I want to live life fully, not simply exist.

about my children:
My oldest child (age 30) is a daughter who owns a home in Tennessee. She is currently a teller supervisor in a bank. My second daughter (age 28) lives in Pensacola, Fl. with her husband and their 4 children. The grandkids are awesome. My youngest child (age 27) is my only son. He has a daughter, but she lives with his ex in Texas. He lives within about 20 miles of me. We don't see as much of each other as I would like, but, hey, he's young and got stuff to do...
job:Education/Training
about my work:
When I'm teaching, I LOVE working with students. Aside from parenting, I think that teaching is the most important job in the country. People that say kids today aren't any good just aren't bothering to get to know them. Most young people just want to be part of something meaningful, but don't quite know how to go about it. As far as the so-called "bad" kids go... well, I don't blame them at all. Just follow them home, and you'll see who's really to blame.
I feel that teaching is so important that I'm willing to sacrifice my plumbing pay scale to do it. I lose money, but gain so much more than the money could ever mean to me.

my idea of a great date:
Hmmm... a great date, huh? Well, that really depends on the other person, too, doesn't it? I mean, if one person doesn't really enjoy, that makes it not-so-great for both, right? It's like a kiss, really. If one doesn't enjoy, the other can sense it, and it's no fun for either. I call it "reciprocal sensation". Hey, I gotta classify. Science guy, remember?
But that doesn't really answer the question. Let's see. Here's my top 10 great dates, in no particular order:

1. Drive to Devil's Tower, Wyoming and spend 3 days climbing (yes, it's platonic)
2. Watching a lousy movie, and waking curled up together at 3 AM
3. Tent camping, and it snows 5 inches (it's more beautiful than you can imagine)
4. Tent camping in a major thunderstorm (it's more awesome than you can imagine)
5. Dinner at a nice seafood or steak place where you get run off because they're closing, and then you go to Denny's or IHOP and talk until suddenly you notice that it's getting light outside...
6. Hiking to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and having a cold beer at Phantom Ranch before hiking back out
7. Hiking to the top of Pike's Peak and drinking coffee in the restaraunt on the summit
8. Snow skiing all afternoon, and then soaking in the hottub
9. An afternoon of climbing in the rock gym and then going over to the coffeehouse for cappuccino
10. Watching a sunset or a sunrise, or maybe both

Do you notice how many of my "great dates" involve physical exertion? This is important. If you can't hike a few miles, you'll not like hanging out with me, and we'll both be frustrated. I just think there's too much to do in life to waste time sitting on the couch.

There you have it. Obviously, this is an incomplete list. I'm sure there's probably lots more great dates out there, just waiting to happen...
the person I would like to meet:
Diamonds are classified by the "four Cs": color, cut clarity, and carat. The lady I'm looking for (MY jewel) can be classified by four Cs as well:
1. Character- Is honest, kind, reliable, has positive attitude, doesn't gossip about other people
2. Charm- Knock my socks off. Be sweet, be feminine
3. Class- A very rare quality, it seems. Think dignity. Think manners. Think in terms of trying to always be considerate of others.
4. Christian- I hardly attend church at all, and can't assign myself to any specific religious group, BUT I am a firm believer in God. This is fundamental to my life.
Additional info:
If you smoke, I'm sorry, but I'm not interested. Can't live with the smell, and I don't want to watch you die like that.
If you want someone who is always agreeable to your moods, always overjoyed to see you, anxious and willing to follow your every lead, get a dog. I am not a pet.
Speaking of dogs, I don't live with them or sleep with them. I LIKE animals, but I don't cater to them. I think that the most horrible person on Earth is more important than ANY animal. Jesus didn't die for your chocolate lab.
If you have a tattoo, well, okay I guess. But I will never like it. It isn't cute or sexy. I don't think body piercings are all that, either. If you have a tongue or lip piercing, I will never kiss you.
If you are just coming out of a bad relationship, you need to take some time. Not with me. That's for your sake, not mine.
If you ask me a question, I will answer honestly. Please don't ask if you don't want the truth. I will try to be tactful, but...
I guess I sound pretty harsh, but I don't want any games or misconceptions.
I'm sure you realize by now that it will take a truly special woman to win my heart.
