I need some clarification on what, and what not, to post here, as far as graphics go. I have found some cute cartoons, but they have Copyright written in a corner of the joke. One of those cartoons was deleted from a post, and I assumed it was the Copyright that did it. I have since deleted the pic from my files.
Some of the sites say we can copy their images, and they have their dot.com info on them somewhere, so is it okay to use those? I don't want to get in trouble for stealing someone's property, or for posting unacceptable images, etc.
Can you explain a little about copyrights? For instance, is there ever a time we can use such? I DO know not to copy the pics that have the big "C" in the middle of the image, BTW.

Classy, some pictures won't link for more than a minute or two, even if they're copyright free...it's the choice of the hosting site (in case that's what happened)

Oh...now THAT I hadn't paid attention to. Once I realized what I had done, I deleted the cartoon from the image-shack files. I didn't want to get banned. I'm a big chicken. Bawk!!!
It still would be nice to have a list of rules. I haven't checked the MD rules recently. Have they been updated to accomodate rules for options? Guess I need to check.

Basically, as I understand it, the graphics are pretty much in the same catagory as profile uploads...I don't think the guy who has the SouthPark kid as his avatar is headed to jail or the banned barn just yet

So I can post my big toe as my avatar?
I think I'm mostly concerned right now about the pics/cartoons that actually have something written on them, and they either say Copyright, or they have a dot.com signature on them. Im assuming the dot.com ones are okay.
I honestly thought I had seen a site that said it was okay to copy their images, but I could have sworn they also had the word Copyright on them. Am I mistaken? Maybe I saw the dot.com info and am wrong.
I'll have to check it out during future searches.

Gee I thought this was going to be about someone who had posted photos with naughty bits showing.
I am sure that will get a person banned.

You cannot post any copyrighted material, unless you have the rights to the copyright.
If an image has an URL, it may also be deleted.

So I can post my big toe as my avatar? Currently your main profile photo needs to be of you. We will be adding the option to select any of your photos to be your forum avatar in the near future. So you can set your big toe as the pic that appears in the forums, or comments.

"forum avatars"...cool idea.
I have noticed that some photo and image sites that have 'copyrighted' material (mostly innocuous silly stuff) say that it may be distributed IF it's not for personal financial gain. "Grey areas", hm?
So far, it seems that everyone's pretty much coloring within the lines with graphics...it'd be nice if we could all (generally) keep the sizes of photos and such down so that it doesn't disrupt the visual continuity of the thread -- as sort of a "self-moderation" so that we aren't restricted "by the book". (~grin~ but of course that's only my opinion...coming from one that often 'pushes the envelope' to the point of being annoying )
PS I LOVE colors and fun smilies...in case you haven't noticed, ~snicker~ THANK YOU, MatchDoc!!
Hip-hip-hurray!

Okey Dokey!
Thanks MD! I appreciate your response. It's nice to have some clarification from the head honchos.
I think I'll pass on the big toe, even if you WILL someday allow it.

Pretty much anything you get off the free graphic sites are OK to post. Some will have the sites advertising logo, which is fine...that's what they want...to drum up business. Most graphics sites WANT you to download their images and not direct link...as it's uses up their bandwidth. Then there are the graphic sites that give you the bbc or the html to link the graphic to a message board or MySpace....they want the advertisement.

Thanks so much, Pali,
Your explanation cleared up any questions I still had.

Can you tell me more about this? Are you meaning for other sites to do URL links? I'm still vague in some areas.

I read the BB info here at MD. I didn't realize it was available for us. I've created links before, but I wasn't sure if you meant linking to MD. I see now.
Another question. HeeHee!
At image-shack, I have mostly been using the "link to forums (1)" option. Should I be using "direct link" and adding my IMG tags? I do use it sometimes, depending.

As long as a photo or image whatever we want to call it, or even some poems, arent Copyright with the c with almighty o around them, or an url or addy as i call them, yes, you may use them., and as you said Classy, your cartoon was not a copyright, but the origin host of it's original location may have lifted it, whenever they noticed in their stats column it's other location of being visible, but you Classy are in no trouble........Earl

WTF? Where did you get that incorrect information from. People believe that stuff.
I have a question. -
1. Are there rules for the posting of acceptable and unacceptable graphics in forums and on blogs?
2. Are photographs of dead animals deemed acceptable?
3. If dead animal photos are classed as appropriate material for posting here; which types of dead animals are acceptable and which aren't?
