I just had an epiphany (but don't worry. I feel better now ) Perhaps some of the ridiculous negativity witnessed recently are actually plants from competitors dating sites. Purposely arriving here to emit their stench and hopefully (hopefully from their perspective) drive MD members to other sites. While that won't work against me or some of the other thick skinned people here, it does unfortunately drive off those with thin skins, especially of the fairer sex.
Dear MD MODs here is a REAL suggestion for improvement - negative darts. Give all members with at least 500 posts - 5 negative darts. These darts can be used to tag new members. A total of 10 negative darts given by 10 different members (one each) in a one month period and that negatively tagged member is out off here !!! C ya ! Adios MF, Hasta la vista, baby ! I bet that would help separate the wheat from the shaft !!! OK, that made me hungry. Anyone for burgers ?

The only thing that would do is have a group of people gang up on someone they don't like.
This is a free site for everyone and sometimes you have to take the good with the bad.
People need to lighten up an realize this is the internet...not all of it is true.

nope, it isn't all true. I am quite happy here 99 percent of the time. I just don't like friends attacked. Though, Jim? Good brainstorming!
I just don't think it would work fairly.

OK Lor & mom, lets brainstorm together. How can we make it better ? To me, if 10 different MD experienced people are firing darts at someone in a single month, there must be a good reason. Maybe dart power could be higher for those who fire less darts ? How about 15 ? 20 ? But, we can't make it too high, or we wouldn't eliminate anyone. OK, how's this. We all have a dart rating. The MODs could check out people with high relative dart hits. We don't have a limit, but this gives the MODs a clue on who to focus on.

Nat, say whatever you like. BTW, I am a slow typist. Your response slipped in while I was typing. I wouldn't want to leave you out of a discussion.
There has been some really good people (i.e. Sweetheart, Kallie, Painter, etc...) who have recently left this site because of a few very negative people. I would much rather see the jerks eliminated than have great people be eliminated because of BS. I have been attacked by fictional characters who were constructed by another member to insulate the actual member from retribution.
In order to make the site better, we need to embrace change, not fight it. That being said, if you feel my idea is not good, what are your ideas on how to help signal excessively poor behaviour on this site ?

So....you want to do something on the order of UN-Kudos, eh? Hmmmm....I can see where someone COULD get ganged up on, but if the ultimate call to stay or leaves rests with the MOD, and not with the "dart-throwers", you might have something there.....like you said, an indication of who the mods should be looking at or watching. And if we're only allowed one "dart" or negative rating each for any one person, it would be an indication as to how many people are being more than a little irritated by the same person......think about it some more, you may be onto something here

We have the report button, which makes the Mods watch threads or look at people. We aren't all gonna like everyone (well, we all like Jester-who wouldn't-he's mowing all of our lawns!)

I don't think that would be fair. There are groups who could easily target someone. Who is to know, but that there may be people with a large group behind them holding grudges from way back against a member.
The Mod knows a lot but he is busy with keeping order all over the site and will not necessarily know the history of two people. So the one with the biggest group behind them is always going to be the one to get someone else banned.
Maybe what some consider irritating behavior from a member is simply that member defending themselves from what they consider attacks.
Also, people get pretty passionate about their politics and religion. If that was put into place there would probably be no one left to post in the Political and Religious threads.

Jester - I wouldn't want to eliminate kudos. Once a kudo is given it should remain. This would be totally apart from the kudo system, which is great ! Perhaps it should be a separate red box (versus green) and should only be able to be used by someone with a good dart rating (few darts per dart opportunity, like an ERA in pitching). It could also be used as an indicator to how friendly this person is. Darts would only be able to be thrown by experienced MDers and perhaps not returned to the thrower unless the target is eliminated.

Dixie - that a good & funny point about religion & politics. also a good point about cliches. However, if the ultimate elimination was still left in the hands of the MODs and this was just an indicator, it would still be a step in the right direction. Their investigation would eliminate misuse.

Perhaps religion & political threads could be a safe haven from darters No, no, pleeeeeeeease don't do that!! We defnitely have our differences but really don't get all that many trolls in there (with a couple of notable exceptions, who aren't around anymore)
If you make them a safe haven, we'll really be n trouble. I can picture it now, all our usual squabbling, with trolls trying to throw gasoline on the flames........

if the ultimate elimination was still left in the hands of the MODs and this was just an indicator, it would still be a step in the right direction. Their investigation would eliminate misuse. Investigation? In that the darts would only be a stepping stone to a fair investigation by the mods? With each side being able to present their case and documenting evidence of the irritants or worse that the other side has thrown their way? Meaning that the Mods won't make a decision based upon the fact that the one individual was targeted by a group that could yell the loudest and by sheer numbers had the most darts to throw?
It would be nice if the mods had the time to do that but I don't think they would able to so, and then we are back to those with the largest group behind them are always going to be the ones to get someone banned.

I don't want to throw darts at people. Come on...this isn't junior high. We're adults and we shouldn't let what someone on the internet run us off someplace we like to be. Or vote us off because they don't like our opinions.
As Lori said...we all have the ability to report, but not enough people actually use that to report the REAL trolls. Most of the time it's too much griping and not enough action.

Finger-pointing is Easy . . - Not necessatily ACCURATE, but easy !! - Don't lump ME in with any 'jerks' . . I've always been a Gentleman . . to the Ladies, here . . !!! If you want to allow Finger-pointing . . Have the Mods actually Sit-In on some of those discussions . . and determine who is being 'Rude' . .'Crude' . . Troll-ish' . . or . . 'Vulgar' enough to cause well-liked members to Cancel . . !!! The Mods are 'supposed' to be fair, impartial and well-informed . . ! We don't need a group of 'Bad-boys' and 'Man-Bashers' _Running_ the operation . . !!
