The 'report abuse' button on blogs?
Does this eventually remove blogs that don't fall within the rules?
If not then why not have a 'not a blog' option?
What is the 'report abuse' button for? .....If it doesn't fall into the above category?

That button alerts us to blogs that don't fall within the rules.

i think she means that she hits the button and the blog is still there, even if it's a 'non-blog'.

I posted one myself, reported it for not being a blog, but it stayed there.

I'd like to know what MD's criteria is....not so much on what is determined to be or not to be a "proper" blog, but how it's determined whose "abuses" are called out & enforced and whose "abuses" aren't...and why some are slammed for it and some aren't...

Well the link to the one I have reported as not being a blog, definitely isn't a blog. It contains no words.

i haven't asked, misschoos, but it seems that the 'report abuse' button isn't an automatic deletion function (you can imagine how 'report abuse' could be abused by some people if it was, lol, guaranteed). my understanding is that each report is reviewed by a real human, a smart one, who sees that blog as making a profound statement, loud and clear.
then again, our techs have a great sense of humor. maybe they just put the button there to help irritated people relieve stress.
(i can't ask now. everyone else is off partying this weekend even in this business, rank has its privileges, lol)
alivenwell351, basically the only ones that get 'slammed' are the ones created to start or continue interactive trouble or personal attacks. the blog section was not designed to be a discussion forum.
i'm guessing i know what prompted this question (several issues). not everything that's seen on the blog pages is always apparant and public. may we please leave it at that?
a blog should be able to stand alone, with or without comments. we've tried to encourage people to post original material, which is supposed to be the intent of 'blogging', but that idea went by the wayside due to public outcry. we know that there's a lot of nonsense posted as 'blogs', but apparently that's what some members want as a reflection upon themselves (blogs are part of their profile).
it's virtually impossible to monitor every single blog, blog comment and forum posting made here 24 hours a day, 7 days a week while trying to maintain control over fakes, spammers, and other behind the scenes workload.
we also don't want to be control freaks and pick on every little infraction of the rules (our jobs would actially be much easier if we did that). we've attempted to try and maintain a balance of allowing members to post freely, considering that everyone is supposed to be an adult here, within stretchy bounderies of civility and good taste. sometimes we need to send reminders and sometimes we need to use stronger measures, but we try very hard to not be a 'totalitarian' site.
a moderators job is to 'moderate', not to be a policeman or babysitter.
perhaps it's not apparant, but something unique to this site is that the moderators attempt to get to know the personalities of the members who post publicly. this helps in evaluating 'intent'. maybe that's good, maybe that's not, but we look upon our community members as people, not just a screen name or a number. a great deal of effort is put into trying to be fair, but there will always be people at both ends of the spectrum who are dissatisfied with any decision we make. just like everywhere in life.

the 'report abuse' button isn't an automatic deletion function I knew that, or there would be nothing left
I guess my 'not a blog' blog is there to stay then
Thank you Yellow One

what is TOTALLY UNIQUE here is that you DO interact with the members makes it very welcoming.. you make being here wonderful... not like other places where one cannot discuss problems with the mods... and THAT is why we love you!! well that and that yellow triangle is just sexy as all get out!!

I do appreciate being able to email the Mod with concerns and that he pays attention to my concerns. I love the interaction here on the forums.
And as Becky said...there's just something about the yellow triangle AND the brains behind it!
