dear MD,

currently the front page shows this for "retrieving passwords" online --

Did you forget your password or user name?

Don't worry, just fill in your Matchdoctor user name or your email address and we'll email your account information to you.

User name or email: [ B L A N K ]

I just don't think typing anyone's UserName should "GRANT you Access" to his/her account is SAFE; otherwise anyone in the World Wide Web can just read a thread, keyin an UserName and cause CHAOS...

most banking/brokerage accounts require an email address AND security question to be answered correctly before sending your Password -- maybe here at MD we can add an added step of Security also??

as always, I Appreciate your Ears!!

your password doesn't just 'appear'. it's sent to the email address you registered with, the same procedure that most websites use. you'd need access to that email account, which is also password protected (you can also password protect your computer's profile for a third level of personal security)

I understand what you wrote, and track the "sequence of events" in my mind, of the Email sent to the REAL User...and it would be a Red Flag if he didn't request for the Forgotten Password...

compared to most banking/brokerage accounts in which our Usernames are "private" -- I guess I thought, for a moment, that since Anyone can grab an UserName from the Fora or BlogLand our accounts can be Hijacked -- THANKS for the Clarification!!
