Can someone tell me do scammers usually gather friends on this site? I didnt think so. HOWEVER I was contacted by someone here and he is travelling abroad.... Ok that is possible he was in the UK but now he went to AFRAICA... But he has 3 friends here..............MY gut says scammer but logic says NO.... HELP...Please....OH and he keeps asking me to add him to my yahoo...

sure sounds like a scammer. Ever think that maybe those 3 people on his friends list are also scammers.

The MODs seem to be on it today. I've had two scammer profiles deleted before I even got to their e-mail.

Some people will accept all friend requests. Some people none. Some people are picky. Some people like gum. (Okay, a stretch, but I wanted it to rhyme. I think I got it this time.)
Scammers send out friend requests. Some people will click "accept" even from Darth Vader... (but not Jar Jar, no-one outside of the Skywalker Ranch likes Jar Jar...).

Always listen to your gut.I am sure this guy is a scammer.there are some red flags here.He wants you on yahoo IM from the very first mail.and he is going to Africa.they always come up with those stuff.I strongly recommend you to visit the romance scams group in yahoo.there is all information you need to learn about scammers and how to protect yourself from be taken in by them.

I know what a scammer is out for, but how can you spot someone who is one. I was talking with this girl for a while on yahoo im. she wanted to meet me. so she was talking about flight tickets and trying to find good rates. anyway she said shw didn,t have it all, so couls i send her some money. long story short. I ended up deleting her and blocking her, but as i deleted her a window popped up and said by deleting this contact. the files downloading will stop, she was trying to down load my files. and this is a girl who i thought was legit. I,m sorry hun, not trying to take away from your post. but if one person could answer. i,d appreciate it

A couple of red flags...
Broken English
they usually give you their yahoo messenger ID in the first email...they want to communicate OFF of this site as soon as possible.
Odd heights/weights on profiles
Black eyes listed on profiles (do you know anyone with black eyes?)
They usually have only one picture, if they have any at all.
and the best one yet..I received an email from a woman on here today...very broken english and it was signed ROBERT. Yeah, robert was a very pretty blonde from Texas.

And....
more often than not, if they have a picture, the physical description in the profile does not match the picture. In other words, a man who is 5'8" and weighs 220 pounds is gonna be nice & thick...not nice & trim!

A VERY good reason not to jump into Yahoo/MSN/off-site IM with anyone before getting to know them well through MD emails FIRST. MD offers free forums, free chat and free IM (if a Gold member initiates it) which is a good buffer, safety-wise.
Put "scammer" or "scam" or "fakes" into the keyword search here or in the blogging section, Coolio. I think the mods have allowed a few threads to remain giving examples of typical scammer behavior and red flags. 
(I hope the woman/syndicate who hit your computer didn't get any critical information!  I'd change all my email addresses and passwords immediately!...preferably from another computer, just in case)

thank you. I appreciate your feed back. I didn,t know, thought it would be nice to chat and get to know her better. but I understand, i,m very cautious now, but it kinda sucks, because I know there are good women out there. and now my guard is up.
