Is there any difference?

I was wondering if there was any visible difference between when a member chooses to delete their account versus when MD spots possible scammers and removes their accounts. Although, it may be an invasion of privacy, it could be helpful to members who may in contact with these individuals if it was clearly marked that they were removed by MD for suspicous activity.

If MD removed them, their emails will have this message:

Message Removed
The profile that sent you this message no longer exists. This member was either found guilty of spamming or violated our terms, thus resulting in the cancellation of their account. If you see many new emails like this one in your inbox, they were probably from scammers. We are doing our best to get rid of these pests, and make sure your inbox is full of messages from real members. To remove this message, click the delete button below.

If they cancelled themselves, the email will still be there to read.

Thank you. I opened a previous email and found that very message. I never thought to look there. Thank you for the input.

SB... I think that's changed now.
I've checked a few e-mails from deleted accounts and the messages were removed. After the person returned, the messages were again readable.

Before, it was the only way to tell if they were bounced by MD or closed their account by choice.

I didn't think that people who were booted were allowed to return.

To my knowledge, they're not. Do you know differently?

If someone closes their account, they may return whenever they want.
If they are booted by MD, they cannot reuse that account name again.

BEFORE:
If someone closed their own account, their messages remained readable.
If they were booted, the messages were removed.

That was the only way to know if they closed the account on their own.

NOW:
If you have messages from either case (closed or booted) their messages are removed. If they were NOT booted and returned, those messages become readable again.

SB... if you send me messages and close your account, I cannot read your messages until you open the account again.

Journeyfan and Brenda have both canceled their accounts and I can still read their messages. But I had opened and read those messages before they canceled. Could that make the difference?

I'm not sure... I have 2 friends who canceled last night and one I can read their old messages and the other I cannot. So now... BOTH rules apply !

This is confusing...

OK.. we're back on track (for now) the closed account today was a glitch.

If you close your account, you can come back (within a reasonable time) and pick up where you left off. All the e-mails your sent are still readable.

If you are bounced by MD, all the mails you sent are removed.
