I think the only way to improve blogs here at md is to get rid of the most popular blog pages. Ever since this was introduced blogging has taken on a myspace mentality of immature blogs posted for the sole purpose of attention. MD will never get back those great writers who have left, let alone attract serious writers as long as this myspace mentality continues.

Serious writers don't blog. They write to have their work published. Just my opinion backed by fact.

My brother is a published writer, not a blogger. To the best of my knowledge, he's never blogged a day in his life. He's a serious writer, and I'm a blogger. Huge difference.

I am serious about the poems I post. I would like someday to have them published. I am sure Jentoblues is serious about her writing as well as many others on here. It's not about being a snob, but caring about the direction blogland is going.

Myspace indeed, its fun to page through the humorous blogs but the "look at me,I have a blog" stuff is for the kids.

Gee there's a forum for poems. Why don't you post them there instead ?
That would make a lot more sense than eliminating that which is popular on the site. Do we really need to drive membership down further ?

I say leave the blogs as they are, all the popularity stuff is for fun. Without the popular blogs how else can we keep track of the really good ones that some might miss.

Good point Cartay. The popular blogs actually bring viewings for the other blogs, thus making them somewhat more popular too.

I , personally , don't care for poems . But i'm not going to ask you not to post them just because " I " don't care for them . We do need a variety to keep EVERYONE happy .

If you want your poetry published, and you're serious about it, why don't you go and post them on poetry sites instead of a dating site?
I don't expect poetry publishers search through billions and billions and billions of websites with blog pages each night.
Publishing houses are innundated with emails from potential young poets, (which makes their job easier).
But I enjoy writing poetry too and I'll start blogging some if it'll please ya
So keep on blogging and as long as we tag our literature with po-et-treeee
I'm sure the single poetry publishers on this dating site will discover you and meeee

Seems like there's a forum for jokes, too.

At least unionman's poetry comes from his heart and from his life experiences, which one would write in a diary.

I'm sad, too....about the state of affairs of the blogs and forums lately. I'm on here daily, searching through all the newest entries. I used to find lots of interesting blogs and threads and I eagerly posted comments on them. And, my comments were usually complimentary...because they were good. I enjoyed blogging because those who commented on my blogs seemed to genuinely enjoy them.

Now I peruse them all, and go on to other sites, without posting, because I am not motivated to spend my time creating written offerings to some people who just don't seem to be interested in anything but "fun" and "games". I am not motivated to blog.

There was a time that I was glued to Jentoblues magnificent writing...and, from the comments, so were MANY others. There are also many other quality writers and poets here, but I can understand how they feel.

I don't have any answers, but, for awhile, I will continue to look over the blogs and threads, hoping the quality will eventually return. However, I'm hoping there is truly an incentive for such quality blogging. That's the way in which I was hoping to learn more about quality people.

I am truly sorry that it has come to this. It used to be such fun.

Sadly,
KnittinKitten

I don't care how the blogs are listed but I find mine are gone so fast the only way I can find them is from my profile under blogs. It seemed it used to be easier, but then if you post a bulletin for your friends it does make it easier for them. I usually spend way to much time on my blogs to make them creative and if no one reads them, then I'm just exercising 30 years of experience as a graphic designer. I like to share my photography but do not wish to share anything that I don't want stolen. As for my personal life it is just that, unless I care to reveal a little and then I try to make it light and funny. I tag all my blogs with Sugar so they are easier to find if anyone is looking but most people don't look for one blogger, and I read my friends blogs first, just how I am....

personally, i have no idea how the "most popular" blogs are determined. you can have one person post a blog and get 10 views and 1 reply and have it more popular than one that has 100 views and 20 replies

and don't get me started on kudos...

Very true, but I'm not whining about poems being in with the blogs.
I have said that variety is the spice of life.
I have actually blogged in support of poems being kept on the blogs,
despite several others arguing that they don't belong there.
There's a couple good poems I've read, certainly not most, but a couple.
Should we eliminate the "bad" ones ? Or is that actually subjective ?
Get my point ? It's all perspective. Let people enjoy what they enjoy and
enjoy what you enjoy. Live & let live. Try laughing once in a while, it's
actually good for your health.

I like the last commented on choice.
And I think, Gold or free, there should be a limit on daily or weekly blogs.
Too many wonderful writers are overlooked everyday.

Maybe it would be a good idea to limit comments from the same person,
as is done with the kudos.

Perhaps another blog category would work.
Original blogs may be the one

No, that wouldn't work either, you would still get all the original crap.
