The Mod said i've also suggested one comment/blog because the comments are supposed to be about the blog, directed toward the writer and what they had to say. that would help prevent 'personal forum discussions'. and there's no reason why someone can't post the same material in the forums if they do want discussion.
Read it and weep little man.

I love how when an opinion/perspective differs from that held by 'the little people', they perceive it to be backstabbing. It seems the backstabbing that has gone on here has been a feeble attempt to accuse of plagiarism -- and then accusations of backstabbing.

When are people going to realise that a forum thread is not necessarily about a particular person?
The title of the thread is Get rid of the most popular blog pages
This is not an attack on individuals, it's a suggestion, for which this forum is intended.
The popular blog pages are ugly. They are not at all inviting to new members. They do nothing for this site. They do not represent most popular blogs because they represent blogs that have repetitive comments from individuals who want to chat and debate issues, which belong in the forums.
The themes on the most popular page are predominantly forum items, in that they have more comments from repetitive members making comments, or debating articles that should be in a forum environment and not on blogs.
It is nothing to do with a personal preference for blog content, quality of content or ability of a writer. It has nothing to do with particular people either.

Thank You Misschoos. I agree with your thoughts. Nicely put.
I have to admit the ugly personal attacks I received by more than one person here really surprised me.

Union ty for the quote from the MOD... I blog once in a blue moon and the hyena pack jumped in to attack me haha was actually hysterical to watch their feeble attempts to MAKE me leave blogland ... the ONLY person/persons that could MAKE me leave is the MODS !!! cause they so rock!! but I have been very good over there ... even when faced with the attack of the rabid hyenas ...I just mostly have laughed mainly cause its NOT all about hem and they still cant SEE that... the topic was ELITE BLOGGERS .. (the cream of the crop , the shiznit of the keyboards) definitely NOT about them.. it was about those who write with such flourish of pen stroke as to paint a picture .. create an image ....not the copy paste type bloggers (constantly ) who apparently haven't a original thought in their head ...sigh .. yet they felt the need to turn my blog ... my tiny one paragraph musing... into a war zone hmm could I have inspired jealousy ?? nahh
but THIS topic is about Get rid of the most popular blog pages. a listing like this just gives way to competition for the LOOK AT MEEEEEEEEE!! crowd ...but then again that is all some people have in their lives

I think everyone's blogs should only be accessible from their profile page..then I don't have to log on and read the crap every day I have to filter through to find what my friends are saying...

It'd be nice if the discussions would stay off the blogs, as well. Two or three people engaging in a long discussion can keep a blog in the popular list long after everyone else has grown bored of it. It might get one new unique commentor in the span of two days simply because it's on the popular list, but the "churn" is mostly a few individuals who are (intentionally or unintentionally) bypassing the email limit.
If not one comment per day per commentor, how about something like "five comments per blog on for the 24 hour period after your first comment (or maybe a straight "the first 24 hours the blog is available"?), then one comment per day per blog indefinitely, but only to a maximum of ten comments"? It allows the initial flurry of excitement over the new blog (i.e. posting comments about the blog, about the other comments, and so on), then allows for comments over a period of days, and it cuts off people from spamming a blog with too many comments.
I think something like that would be a good compromise, but then, I don't know how hard it would be to program.
Edit: Or just limit the calculations of blog popularity to some similar algorithm of diminishing returns, given kjac's comment below. If a blog is popular (i.e. a lot of people make a few comments), it'll stay in the list. If it's insular in nature (i.e. a few people make a lot of comments, long after everyone else is gone), it'll leave the list.
Another option: Age the count of unique commentors when calculating popularity. Only count unique commentors in the last 2 days, for instance, so if people lose interest, if only two or three people are continuing the discussion, it'll drop off the list and let more current, more widely commented blogs rise to the top.
And that's all it is: a list. This modification of my suggestion doesn't take away the feature (i.e. blogging and commenting), it just allows people to see more than the many of the slots held for a week by blogs that are mostly attention-grabbers.

I don't have any idea who some of you are. But the fact is, there aren't enough features here, so why get rid of the ones we do have? The most popular blog is currently Classy Blonde's. I see some of you that do not believe the popular blog page should exist have comments on it. I wonder if that is a coincidence.

This is the second day I've checked in on this thread.
I don't belong to any circle of friends in particular on this website. I don't take part enough to have a following or be a part of any particular following. Thank goodness.
Frankly, I am in agreement as far as doing away with the "popular blogs" page.
I do, however, find the incessant name calling used by MANY who have posted in this thread to be quite disturbing. Interestingly enough, even people whom I have heretofore given credit for being more intelligent than to stoop to such level. It doesn't make any difference whether it's in the forums or the blogs, the personal attacks are most inappropriate and unattractive.

This is about the 'most popular blog page'
Not about any individual

I thought it was about the popular blog page. I was merely stating what was on top of the most popular blog page and why it was there.
You guys have fun. I'm off to work.

Kjac said But the fact is, there aren't enough features here, so why get rid of the ones we do have? You got to be kidding me.
The problem is people are not using the features we have now properly.

Some of us look up people by bulletin to read their blogs. If there is a small community that wants to interact with just each other, why not do it that way?
It annoys me to see blogs ride the front page that are copy/paste stories and jokes. They should be deleted.

I rather like the "one comment" per person, per blog idea. No offense to those who do it, but IMO those blogs where every other comment is from the OP in an effort to falsely inflate their blog to the popular list is annoying to me. It's rarely a quality blog and I'd really rather see things that are well-written and thought out make that page, not just the people with the most friends or the most comments on their own blogs. Again, this is JMO about it overall, not a personal attack on anyone.
I wasn't here when there were negative kudos, but I heard about them. If they were brought back and figured into the algorithm as to what makes the popular page it might help.

Negative kudos aren't a good idea, IMO. You can "gang up" on someone.

I've got a sumbit sort of mind, so I can imagine a group of people ganging up on someone whose opinion they dislike. Blog after blog, it's marked incredibly negative. Eventually, the person might quit bothering to blog.
