The blogs out there to attract new members as well as the hot forum threads on that page should be cherry-picked by MD to show off the best of MD and not necessarily the most impassioned.

I'm not sure if this is relevant or not, but I will point out that a blog of mine flying off the handle about religious extremists wrote in about 3 minutes sailed to the top of the most popular blog pages in about 20 minutes. It got almost 400 comments before I shut it down. Meanwhile, the blogs I spent the most time and energy on (Descent into Madness) are mostly ignored.
This tells me something. A lot of the people here don't want to read something worthwhile. They want to read something that will get them pissed off so they can vent their frustrations of their own miserable lives to the masses. They think if they can piss someone off as much as they are, then it makes them less of a prick.
Getting rid of the popular blog page won't change that. But maybe therapy will. Or, they can always get a dog to kick.

If MD cherry picked the blogs I can hear people screaming MD is playing favorites.
I think PMF made a good point, even if the popular blog pages were stopped not much would change here. I too think like many here the answer is one comment per blog, it's sad that a minority might ruin the ability for the majority to post more than one comment.
I want to wish my one and only muse Lacy a HAPPY BIRTHDAY.  I couldn't ask for a sweeter friend . YOU ROCK

Sorry everyone. I only looked at my home page and saw the popular blogs were missing. When I went to log in on MD's front page...I noticed popular blogs was still there. I didn't realize it had always been that way. Duh.
I'm still agreeing that the comments to a blog should be limited to one per member.

OK, I have a problem. As I read through the blogs, I am putting people on my favorites list to make sure I go back and check for more of their interesting blogs. I now have eight pages of favorites! This does NOT help at all!

At least glancing through those pages will show you who's recently written something. And not everyone writes every day, either.
Besides, you've been around here long enough to know that the worst of the liars, baiters, and trolls will end up hanging themselves and be bounced off soon enough.

One site I visit has what they call "Illuminated Site of the Day." Now, while they occasionally use the blog to advertise products they're selling (hey, it's their site, they have to pay for it somehow), they often post links to sites that are just cool.
So yeah, an MD-selected blog, chosen for quality of content or thoughtfulness of ideas, would be okay with me.
I just pity the poor staffer that gets picked to go through a couple hundred blogs a week...

The replies on this blog is exactly why I say that we should only be allowed one response per blog. The blog is in "most popular" but there are at least two people replying over and over again to boost it's numbers. I realize that blog wars are going on right now, but 6 comments in a row by the same member...times two? Give it a freakin' rest already!

I'm sorry I brought up the whole negative kudo thing, that was before my time and I see now why it was taken down, thanks for the enlightment everyone.
Still voting for the one comment per blog. I like the idea of MD hand picking them, but as SNG pointed out it would be a full time job and the mods have enough to do already.
