I would like to see the popular blog rating re-evaluated to reflect the true popularity of a blog.
Popularity - The Quality of being widely admired.

Then that would mean a voting system of some kind! Like from a 1-5 type thing! One person one vote and tie the voting to the ID! That way no multiple voting!
Any other solutions!

one comment per blog per person....
and the writer of the blog can't comment on his/her own blog...
that would be a start...

During my first year of highschool the principal had an assembly just for us first year students and talked about the two 'different kinds' of popularity.
I never forgot it...when I was in highschool anyway because I saw it in action. Now I'm wondering if I'm seeing it in action again.
After I posted above I went to look at blogs
I saw one 'popular' blog that had 30 posts within a short space of time posted by only 4 posters. One poster posted 11 posts within a 30 minute period The OP posted 11 posts One poster posted 3 posts within a 2 minute period...2 of them back to back.
If this had been a happy blog maybe I wouldn't be here but it was designed to perpetuate the blog war .

Egads....I just saw another popular blog....this time the OP allows all comments and I'm thinking he's smart enough to know that his blog will get more posts that way because his topic is so inflammatory and also meant to perpetuate an insult to another blogger. I'm getting very disalusioned ....I've done enough evaluating....I definitely have a strong opinion about 'popular' blogs

Some of the popular blogs are just forums posted because they like to have control over what and who says it. Or they have there own little group where they sit and exchange ugliness.

One of the good things for me that has come out of this blog war is that I have met some people here in the forums I would never have of other wise. I am not going to name them, they know who they are, very intelligent, sweet and elite debaters.
I hope I haven't given the trolls another catch phrase they can use to misrepresent the true meaning of.

Maybe we can leave the Popular blog rating as is - after all it does reflect the blogs that are the most popular to the general population at MD and it is quite consistent! Like it or not the blogs that rate well are no mistake!
Then we can help MD think of another rating - like - "Best Real Blog"
JOKE!!!!
Maybe -- best Literary Blog! or something along those lines,

Blogs are meant to be for journal writing. It's meant to be: Meriam Webster said:
a web site that contains an online personal journal with reflections, comments, and often hyperlinks provided by the writer That is the intention of MD, I believe.
The forums are for discussions, the blogs are for musings.
I'm in favor of allowing unlimited commenting (or at least allowing SOME commenting...), but limiting the impact of comments in the calculation of popularity. If you can't generate mass interest and sustained interest, it's not really popular. Let it be calculated by the number of people (not number of comments...) who have commented recently.
As interest wanes, it drops quickly, allowing fresh blogs which generate a broader level of interest to take their rightful place.
Otherwise, it'll just become a race to see who can post the most inane comments as quickly as possible.

Otherwise, it'll just become a race to see who can post the most inane comments as quickly as possible. I noticed that on a couple of blogs. But it isn't totally without merit. I cracked up watching two people banter on back and forth on one of the anti-atheist blogs. Some of the flat out lies were just too stupid to get mad at. I almost fell out of my chair laughing at them. And I know quite a few other people who found it equally amusing.
So yes, even though there were only two posters bantering back and forth, it was more popular than it appeared, simply because everyone was laughing at them.
carpe's thumbs up was for the comment above me BTW.

The forums are for discussions, the blogs are for musings. I tend to believe that was the intent of MatchDoc opening up a blog section, too. Afterall, they are part of each individual members profile.
(lol, don't look at mine -- mostly they are just me being fresh, as I recall )
