I know that bloggers are expected to regulate their blogs to curtail disruptive comments. Why, then, are bloggers allowed to grandstand for disruptive comments, all from one side of the political and religious spectrum?
We have political and religious forums. They are open for all of the community. Why, then, do we need one-sided blogs, filled with comments that are misleading, and woe betide anyone who dares to "disrupt" the blog by issuing a rebuttal.
When new members join MD, what greets them? A list of blogs, yes? And what do they see on those blogs? Most of them are personal journal entries, but standing tall among the popular blogs are the ones which spew hatred and intolerance for minority viewpoints. If we want an all-inclusive community, wouldn't it be best to in some way curtail the ability to post intentionally-disruptive blogs?
At the very least, don't include them in the lists. Have the bloggers tag them as "political" or "religious," so those interested can click on a link to view them. Don't scare off new customers by creating the impression that this is a site catering to the less tolerant members of society.

Those inflammatory blogs, "SNG" is absolutely right on! It seems as if they turn them into the "Our Gang Blogs"! Just a few are allowed to blog on their blogs and as long as someone agrees you can blog also! But, once you disagree you are blocked and just the regulars continue! It is all one-sided with no one disagreeing and definitely no dissenting opinions!
Well, my two cents worth!

I like it !
................................................................................................................
I dunno Left and luckie, I have attacked on several of their blogs, and disagreed, yet they continue to allow my comments. I certainly see what you are talking about, and have witnessed the comments, but I dont understand why some are allowed, and others blocked.
When he got angry with my remarks, he asked me to leave his blog, and I did, but he never blocked my comments, then or now.
so I pose this, but not accusing just curious........ is it the differences of opinion, or do comments start becoming personal attacks to the OP, that cause a block?
I have seen their nasty comments to posters, but also a two way street.

I saw one controversial blog where there was a cut-and-paste. A commentor posted a link to snopes.com, rebutting the blog. It was deleted. Two other rebuttals were also deleted.
Why people block and why they delete, it's beyond me.

Careful, SNG....posting links to snopes proving urban legends is a surefire way to get blocked by a few bloggers.

New blog up, claiming that racism is solely the province of the African Americans. They claimed that, because someone from 150 years ago belonged to a party called the Republicans, the Republican party can't be racist.
Never mind the fact that the Republicans from 150 years ago are in no way, shape, or form the equivalent to the ones from today, except by name...

We have political and religious forums. They are open for all of the community. Why, then, do we need one-sided blogs, filled with comments that are misleading, and woe betide anyone who dares to "disrupt" the blog by issuing a rebuttal. The reason for one-sided blogs designed that way might be because the blogger needs support for what they may say in the forums but since few bother to wade through page after page of nonsense in them to make a comment they know more support is garnered by putting it on as a blog?
If this site wants to welcome more new customers in the forums maybe they should limit forum posts in any single thread to no more then two per day. Maybe that would discourage what happens alot, people living in certain threads only to show disrespect for anyone that doesnt follow the same ideas as they.

I probally should recuse myself from this discussion since I'm such an attention whore. I've posted provacative blogs that some might consider disruptive. I remember specifically deleting comments from people based solely on my persoanl preferences about how people should comment on blogs. It was completely arbitrary and maybe even unfair. But, the comments were what I have come to believe society as a whole finds offensive. The standard is considerably lower on the internet as to what constitutes offensive language. Maybe some day there will be stricter regulations on such speech. But until then we all we can reall do is what we think is right given specific circumstances. Great thread

This seems incredibly unfair to people who write politically and religiously motivated blogs that were NOT meant to be disruptive. It's really stupid to exclude blogs just because of their substance and because certain users find them to be "disruptive".

Lippy,,,I love your pic
Oooops,,,,on topic now,,,hmmmm,,,wasn't going to comment here just lurking but I forgot when I saw Lippy's sweet pic
Ok,,,let's just keep it simple and use 'appropriate' language and then we can say whatever we want So often I get turned off when the message MIGHT BE worth consideration but the format is NOT

I think you guys all need to back off! Without the idiotic blogs saying atheists can't beat cancer, democrats are rapists, the pope hates the environment, and everyone is evil except jews and christians, what would there be to laugh at? You guys are just trying to stifle their comedic ramblings on the basis of their sobriety. You should be ashamed!
Discriminating against someone's blogs and posts just because they are incoherent, inflammatory, and flat out lies is still discrimination. Now excuse me, I have to read about someone applauding the Pope for something he didn't say, then I'm going to read about how I'm going to steal Christmas and make children learn scientific theory in school.

That's a possibility. A more likely one is that most people don't know about the forums, but everyone sees the blogs front and center on the main page.
For several of those who blog in spite of knowing of the forums, they show no fear of directing abuse at large classes of people, but are afraid of receiving abuse in return...
A lot of those blogs to which I object are crafted by expert "spin doctors," then distributed to the neo-con sympathizers. Against the works of people who have spent a lifetime learning how to turn "live and let live" Average Joe citizens into bastions of hatred, what chance has a five-minute composition to try to rebut the sheer diabolical crafting? ESPECIALLY as the bloggers block any attempt to rebut?
Bevrice, you may or may not be a True Christian, I haven't seen enough of your writings to decide. Those bloggers are most definitely not. "You will know them by their fruits," and the sheer hatred being spewed by them does not, from my understanding of Christianity, come from the Trinity. The other end of the spectrum, perhaps, but that's not the religion of love of which I've heard.

Well, SNG, you always have the option of posting your comment as a blog of your own. What's good for the goose, after all
