...there were a tab on a person's profile telling us on which blogs they had last commented ( as there is with forum posts). blogs are a completely different format than the forums. we'd need to update our entire database every few seconds to try and keep up with 'last commented on by a certain person' (which is pretty much an impossibility) because blogs can be edited and deleted by each member, personally. and then some comments appear immediatey, some appear later after 'approval', and some don't appear at all or are deleted.
ok, that the simple version as it was explained to me.
(even we can't chase down comments made by individuals, unfortunately. )
keeping track of bloggers via the 'favorites list' works for blogs themselves, tho.
the same 'continual database update' is likely the reason the home page can't be customized. it would be like providing every member with another (changable) profile page, doubling the time it now takes to update the site. (or something like that. i'm not a tech )
