Every one of the spams I get is titled "Hello" and then contains a Yahoo address for email. These people rarely change the format of this sort of thing and I've wondered two things as a result:

1. Why not have MD refuse to post messages simply labeled "Hello" and which contain email addresses of any sort?

2. I'd love to place filters on words so that, for my own messages to be received, certain words automatically kick emails from even being delivered to me. Words and sentences - like... "beautiful Chinese woman", "China", "@yahoo.com", "@hotmail.com" and similar words that auto-flag as spam.

3. Rating system to mark "real" members versus pests. Score based on responses in ratio of response, time online, etc... Would do a lot to weed out the trash versus the real users who are here because they like MD.

LOL, 48 years old with a good job, single, and a hot looking hunk with a great smile in front of a spiffy red 'Stang...and you wonder what the appeal is?

...aside from the fact that you show up online when it's daytime in China AND Nigeria (and night time for the "night workers" promoting their porn sites )

Hey, you could just change your picture to show you hiding behind some goofy Yank blonde

Make sure you click the spam button when you read such an e-mail
as it helps eliminate them quicker.
I set it up so it filters out everything from outside the Americas and the UK.
Many times such e-mails are deleted before I even see them as I often forget
to check my "filtered" inbox.
For those that CLAIM they are in the USA I enjoy asking them continual questions
about the town/state they CLAIM to be in.
It causes them much indigestion
or as I call it - just desserts.

1. Why not have MD refuse to post messages simply labeled "Hello" and which contain email addresses of any sort?

That would be a waste of time. Spammers would just switch to a different greeting: "Good day", "Nice to meet you", et cetera. I would also prefer not to ban e-mail addresses because it is an excellent tip that the author is a spammer or scammer. (I am one of those folks who won't answer any message that contains a Yahoo address.)

2. I'd love to place filters on words so that, for my own messages to be received, certain words automatically kick emails from even being delivered to me. Words and sentences - like... "beautiful Chinese woman", "China", "@yahoo.com", "@hotmail.com" and similar words that auto-flag as spam.

I endorse this idea. We can already filter by region, of course, but it is too easy for scammers to evade that block by falsifying their country of origin. How many messages have you received from New Yorkers, Californians and Floridians who were obviously Russian? I have even received messages from Antarctica!

3. Rating system to mark "real" members versus pests. Score based on responses in ratio of response, time online, etc... Would do a lot to weed out the trash versus the real users who are here because they like MD.

That would be too easy to abuse. Members of various cliques would be able to influence the ratings by rating their friends or by reporting people that they dislike. I have seen it tried at other sites and it was not especially effective.

{Double post deleted}

I just wanted to add that I wish we had the option to block messages from people without photos in their profile.

How about having 'em pay to email you? LOL - It has a certain logic to it...

Good posts there Rare - appreciate the feedback on my musings there - The funny thing is that once I posted the complaints, all of a sudden all the Chinese emails came to a squalling halt. Me thinks they don't like being pointed out to MD gods...

You think they read profiles and forums?

I toldja, they just look at the pictures (and personal stats).

I just hit them with and report them immediately -- they don't usually last any more than a day or so.

Yep, what Sunny said. The ones that kill me, are the ones that say they love my pics! I told one last night to get a real job, and stop trying to get money out of American women. Then spammed him!

I am *so* hoping that the U.S. puts up Internet borders and stops the communications from these places in it's tracks. It is do-able and needed. That and making it so computers auto-suspend and turn themselves off at night to stop the endless spambot armies in their tracks....

Then these Chinese, Russian and other folks will finally get back to dating their own and stop with the racket over here... grrrr....

The sad thing is, it works. Otherwise they wouldn't keep it up. Too bad there are so many people with such low self esteem that they fall for it.
