the only thing better than just one comment by the readers, would be to not allow COMMENTS by the blogger. the blogger stated their view / opinion, the commentors agreed / disagreed, the end of the world did not happen,,, and life goes on. if somebody comes up with new facts / insight, let them write a new blog. or not...

How about NO comments whatsoever? I think that would work to the best advantage for everyone around here in light of so many not realising that a blog is a stand alone "document"...no more bickering, no more name calling, no more junior high school crappy attitudes, etc. If you want to write something where there can be replies en masse, then take it to the forums and turn it in to the typical MDr. junior high school free-for-all, fecal throwing, tantrum pitching event. Personally, I think that this would be easier on the Moderators to police since they could spot the violations in the forum thread and lock it down for all posterity to see who made of fool of themselves that particular day and/or hour. Got a problem or wish to comment on a blog? Take it directly to the "writer wannabe" in e-mail. I think this particular solution would be the best option.

Problem solving in the BLOG issue can also be sustained by allowing the member writer an option drop-down cascade menu or option buttons before hitting post:
Drop-Down Cascade Menu or Button Options: Lock (no member as access to comment) UnLock (all members have access to comment) Yield (writer can view pending members comments/accept or deny option)
Another option for the member writer is having allowance to change the above options in the Lock/Unlock only, but not the Yield option.
If MD gives the member writer more options like above suggestions, the writer would have full control of his/her own BLOGS as it was intended and designed in the first place.
No BLOGS should be discussed in the forums...that should not be an option and should not be allowed; not even your own. MD does not have the time to supervise every forum thread and every post 24/7.
If MD used this problem solving suggestion, they would not have to expand, change, or update their BLOG rule policies.

um...you can already allow or disallow comments.
It comes in your email as "Accept Comment" or "Do not accept comment"
Only people on your friends list are automatically approved.

I personally like the one comment format...however...since the blogger can add numerous comments to their own blog, its possible for them to have a one-way discussion with a commenter, with no way to publicly defend or support the original comment.
One comment per blog should also include the original blogger.

One comment per blog should also include the original blogger I would hate to see the original blog edited to where some comments don't make sense..and that could happen if the blogger cannot have multiple comments
my thinking is.. that as they ultimately control their blog.. they should be allowed to comment as many times as they want.. remember that it is their blog..and there may be questions that come up from the one comment allowed per person

Lock (no member as access to comment) UnLock (all members have access to comment) Yield (writer can view pending members comments/accept or deny option)
All of those options are already available to us. When you get a comment on one of your blogs...there is a little link that says "change your settings here".
So at this point, the blogger has full control over their written thoughts. And I personally think that the one comment rule has solved many problems. Most actually. But I have seen people bring a blog subject into the forums when it appears to warrent more discussion. Nothing wrong with that I wouldn't think

I think there should be more then one comment for the many reasons other have spoke about.
I think a good way to control things is to have the Author of the blog be responsible in this way, Give him or her 24 to remove offensive and rule breaking comments, if they don't let it be up to the Mods to delete it. This way, the author will be force to be proactive in keeping their blog in a more mannerly way.
For some reason, people didn't use the power of block or delete in keeping control of their blogs.

But Ed, I think that would force the Mod's back into "daddy mode", and I just don't see how that would be worth it. Things can seriously get out of control in 24 hours.
"We" (as in a portion of Blog Land) have proven time and time again that we can't handle other peoples points of view. That "we' lack all self control.
I'm not saying there won't always be a certain amount of problems, but I do think Blog Land has been a much more pleasant experiance as of late.
I think that it is easy to forget that we are not in a love relationship with Matchdoctor, compramise is not part of the deal. This is their baby and they can do what they like with it. The majority of us are not paying them for these priveledges. And those that do pay that small fee, have a large amount of perks that go with it.
Take a look out there, check out a few other sites. You won't find a large site like this where the Mod's know peoples names, have a sense of humor and can laugh along with us. They have found a way to balance enjoying their members while still keeping control. I for one thrive in this atmosphere. And while the Mod man just won't date me...I still love the guy.

The author does have control over if comments can be posted or not and by whom they can be posted.

as a blogger you have control already...you can allow, not allow, allow only friends and control others and you can DELETE any and all ... whatever you like........
BUT
if you give a man a fish cooked he will always expect you to FEED him
if you teach him how to fish he will expect you to FISH for him and COOK it also......
