I have to say something, not just to be mean or picky, but I don't think I'm the only one this bothers. I just posted this to what I thought was a good writer until I got a little suspicious and Googled her "work":

Oh man. All this poetry and "deep thoughts" that you've posted letting people think that you wrote it yourself...and come to find out it's just copy/pasted plagiarized stuff stolen off the internet.

Sorry, not impressive now. If you have something original to share, we'd love to hear it, I'm sure...but to not give credit to the REAL authors or source is pretty tacky, misleading, and illegal, too, yanno

I doubt she'll post it, but at least she'll maybe get the "hint".

I don't have a big problem when someone is honest enough to put someone else's words into a yellow quote box (and hopefully posts a link or at least gives credit to the author); but sheesh, to blatantly post stolen or "borrowed" stuff and intentionally (or stupidly) passing it off as one's personal thoughts is a royal slap in the face to all the people who DO blog with their own words and hearts. It's also another slap in the face to the person with enough talent to write it in the first place.

PLUS it's rude and misleading to the readers -- here they think there's some clever/well-spoken/insightful person behind the profile...and what the personna is, is basically a phoney and a thief.

OK, I'll get off my soapbox now, but there's been a whole lot of this "copy-paste" posted as blogs lately and I can see where REAL contributers might say to hell heck with trying to come up with anything original to share. I just don't think it's fair to them!

This has bothered me for quite some time. One of the big clues of plaguarism, especially on forum posts, is the succinct, insightful, intellectual post when the norm from the poster is usually bad grammar, poor spelling and diction that would have made his/her third grade teacher weep.

I totally understand what East is talking about its ooooooh so obviously a copy paste yet they post it as THEIR own and its NOT because they don't know HOW to quote The poetry is harder for me to catch UNLESS again the spelling and grammar are the dead giveaway either way its BS and well only BSers HAVE to pull that shit to make themselves look better .. ahem

It's STEALING. Plain and simple. That ones ego is so fragile that they cannot give credit where credit is due is NO EXCUSE!

But...but...I said it was John Denver this time, Sunny!!

Kidding!

I know what you mean...post the link on the abuse thread when you find it. Report it. Call the person out where they can't deny your comment! That's what I do....but then, I'm a real bitch and you're such a sweety, Sunny

Here's another example...

http://www.matchdoctor.com/blog_93200/WOW_AMAZING.html

Ever single one of her "blogs" is copy/paste stolen stuff (probably from MySpace )...

Is that fair to others who think things up themselves to present it as their own witty work? They should at least be required to put the text in a yellow quotebox, don'tcha think? And also tag the stuff with a label (such as "copy and paste" or "from another site" or forwarded email" etc)

another pet peeve is cutting and pasting that stuff period. I delete those chain emails as it is...so it's not even what I consider a blog.

On another thread, a poster brought up the issue of "fair use." Fair use is a legal term, meaning you don't need permission to use a particular passage. That does not mean; however, if you cut and paste the balcony scene from "Romeo and Juliet" you are not required to put the work in quotes, you just don't have to secure William Shakespeare's permission before using it.

Fair use can be a slippery slope. Some medical and mental health societies, like the APA or the AAD, only allow you to use a certain number of words (which must be attributed) from a pamphlet, etc. If you go above the 500 limit of the APA, you must pay them to use their work. Same thing with many authors.

So, keep in mind "fair use" doesn't mean misuse.

Thought this might grab some Attention....

FBI arrests man over leak of Guns N' Roses songs
1 hour, 5 minutes ago
LOS ANGELES - Federal authorities say they have arrested a blogger suspected of streaming songs from Guns N' Roses unreleased album, "Chinese Democracy," on his Web site.

FBI agents arrested 27-year-old Kevin Cogill on Wednesday morning on suspicion of violating federal copyright laws. Federal authorities say Cogill posted nine unreleased Guns N' Roses songs on his Web site in June.

The songs were later removed.

According to an arrest affidavit, Cogill admitted to agents that he posted the songs on his Web site.

"Chinese Democracy" is a much anticipated — and repeatedly delayed — new album by Guns N' Roses that is more than 10 years in the making.

Somebody else's wish obviously.

Some people just don't get it.

These forums, etc are "googlable" (or is it googlible?) and writers now routinely check to see if their work is being stolen.

Just this week, I received my MWA survey in which you document any professional writing you've done over the past year. Your writings entitle you to a general pot of royalties. So it is really theft.
