Would it be possible to give all newbies a few days to get used to the site before they are allowed posting privileges? I know it sure would curtail some of the Punch and Judy crap that went on in here yesterday! Just an idea.

Dang, great idea but you know, some sites make you wait weeks to post or give you only a few posts until you have been there a certain period of time.

My guess is that the point is to discourage people coming back under other profiles. A better solution to me seems to be to simply block the IP's instead.
Because you can't come back if you can't come back.

I think the ForumMod said that blocking IPs doesn't necessarily work. They could log in under another port. They can use a different computer. Even the same computer doesn't have a static IP address.
To get rid of the latest troll (He Who Shall Not Be Named), they had to block off a swath of addresses (or something), which means that people who lived around him and who might be members, can no longer log in to MatchDoctor.

A better solution to me seems to be to simply block the IP's instead. The Mod said when they do that, others get blocked too from that area
and if someone who's been banned comes back under another name, especially right away, they're deleted immediately. if they're persistant, like we've seen recently, their ip is banned permanently. in that case, other members in the area who may be in that ip range cannot log in anymore. the innocent people can thank the troublemakers for affecting them like that.

I do like Willow's idea, but would like to add to it. New members can't post or blog until there profile has been screened and approved. They can still be on the site, browse profile, write and receive emails, just simply not be able to use the forums or blogs until the Mods are sure they are really "new".

I'm not sure that there's enough personnel for them to do that, Bandt.
And I wonder if their email, blog, and forum software are robust enough to handle automatically authorizing new members after a specified period.

Lie I keep saying.....volunteer staff to review profiles with the final decision being made by the Mod. Other sites use volunteers, why not this one?
If they can put people in "time out" then new members can automatically be put in "time out" and then lifted when approved.
