Hi everyone, this new board sounds like fun and a great way for all of us to get to know eachother. Hopefully in time we can do a post were a large group of us singles can do a meet, like in the winter time a meet in Florida, its to cold here in Indiana or in the summer time up here anywhere we choose. We can also make it an affordable way by setting everything up in advance like hotel rooms the sites we want to see and everyone gathering together at a resturant and a bar latter for a weekend or 3 day get together. A great way to meet people. What do you think? By the way my name is Fred and its nice to meet you.

Well, if you're thinking about Florida, I recommend Jacksonville! It's very tolerable in the winter, less expensive and closer than Miami, and lots of history in the area (St.Augustine, Fernandina Beach) and clubs and restaurants galore by the beautiful beaches, which are still nice to walk during the winter!

Jacksonville Florida sounds good to me, you have the airport thier too. I have been to St. Augustine to look at the Spanish fort thier. I was talking with someone from Texas that i was at the Alamo Fort in Texas and that fort is tiny compared to the Spanish Fort in Flordia. So we meet at your place for the big cook out  Thanks your friend Fred

We've had annual Matchdoctor gatherings since 2000 and smaller gatherings in between. I've met a lot of great freinds.

yup.There is a group of MD people who met on here and have get togethers every year,a few times a year sometimes. I got to go to one and plan on making it to another one soon.

If we were to have one in Florida, I'd go for Orlando.
Obviously lots to do and see but has the added benefit of cheap flights into Sanford or Orlando. Especially if you're a Southwest or budget airline user.
I've flown round trip from NH for $120 round trip.
This weeks trip is costing me $57 one way!
Also, it kind of splits the state of Florida which could bring in more Florida people...
Just an opinion.

Back in the days of the old MD Message Boards, the gatherings would be announced here, and whoever wanted to attend could do so. Some of the occasions were for Halloween, Memorial Day, 4th of July, etc. Here are some lessons we learned:
1) Although 3-day weekends are convenient if someone is hosting a "gathering" at their home, there can be some difficulties. Hotels and airlines generally fill up during those times, and it's hard to get the truly bargain rates. Not impossible, mind you, it just takes some work and committment.
2) Small regional gatherings and events are a good way to begin. Until we develop a network of people we know and would like to meet, it might be best to link the gathering to some local event. That way, a group coupl perhaps meet for a pre-Bowl Game tailgater in a park somewhere, and then watch the game on TV. This way, you at least get do something fun if it turns out that the local group doesn't "sparkle".
3) Adjust your expectations. This is like a mass "first-date", with lots of different people. Maybe you've got hopes of finding "The One"; don't be disappointed if you don't. This may just be a wonderful way to get to know folks who can become buddies, and who as all they friens they need after all?
4) Don't expect "Girls Gone Wild" or some wild-*ss orgy. The folks who come to these things are people like you, and they're no more likely to go streaking than your typical Sunday school class. If you wanna streak, do it in your home town -- it'll be easier to find someone to bail you out!
5) Don't over-plan the gathering. We found that the biggest thing at these gatherings was TALKING, lots and lots of TALKING! Followed by cooking (& sharing recipes -- some guys are dynamite in the kitchen!), eating, going out to dance and sing karaoke, and sightseeing. A Renaissance Faire or a big shopping mall trip can be a highlight, even if you keep your wallet in your pocket. It's just a way to generate TALKING.
BTW, I don't think there's ever been a gathering in Florida or the Southeast. Go for it, talk it up, and see what happens. A dozen people can have a pretty good time if they work together.

great points haban...
also, the dates may not work for all, some may come in the day some are leaving...but things usually work out.
if they meet at someone house, there is a LOT more work for the host's but you are able to talk to EVERYONE. where if you choose a hotel, theres less clean up but not enough 'gathering' places to really sit and mingle. to organize site seeing trips is much harder too..but it can be done.

Hi Haban and Danger, yes i think it can be done. We organized old friends from high school and thier was only 28 of us and we all went to vagas, the group rate for 4days and 3 nights from ohara, that was in chicago to vegas with hotel room was 268.00 a person, but the way we did it was 2 to a room with two beds. Picking the holiday weekends are the worst because thiers always family get togethers. It is less expencive on the off season even for the 3 day weekends. Also you can do a middle of the road type for everyone. Like Nashville Tennessee and all book at one hotel. The hotel manager usually gives a discount and you just say its a matchdoctor single gathering. Thier alot to see in Nashville and the Grand odle opra has some good bands thier. Thier alot of places, even Florida flights are reasonable but do it in feburary. I am sure we will all hear and talk more on the issue. Thanks everyone for you imputs. Your friend Fred

Fred....your screenname sounds familiar. Have I talked to you before? Anyway....our first gathering was in Reno and held over the Memorial Day Weekend, so we continued to have the gatherings that weekend. Only problem is if you're not having the gathering at someone's house, hotel prices are more expensive during holidays. The second gathering was at Bob's house in Michigan, the third in Sarnia, Canada, the fourth in Reno again and last May was in St. Louis. We've had two Halloween parties in Tulsa, and countless local get-togethers. We even had a "Wizards of Christmas" gathering in Illinois and Indiana to help out a friend of ours and make her and her family's Christmas brighter. I also went to a Vegas gathering, but that was a Mingles party. lol I don't go looking for a guy because I'm NOT looking....just happy with my life the way it is. I go because I have made great and lasting friendships this way....and it's FUN!

Hi Palomino I dont recall every talking to you but when you said mingle meet that was another site your talking about CM is that the one? They are having a mingle meet in Chicago in a couple of weeks and i was planning on going to that one. They just had one in Nashville and i heard it was big and everyone enjoyed themselves. It was a pleasure meeting you, your friend Fred

Mark this date on your calendar: December 17th.
I live with three other guys in a big log house out in the country (Darby FL). Think of it as a big frat house for bikers... lol
Anyway, we have a big pool, a full blown bar out back, a band stand, etc. etc. It is definitely a party house, and every year we have a big Xmas party with a live band and minimum adult supervision. Last year we had over 300 people here. This year we are shooting for 500.

My favorite area in Florida. Love Jax. Mayport, Green Cove Springs, St. Augustine, Daytona Beach. I had two sons living down there for awhile but now none at all. I am in Northern Wisconsin.

I'm telling you, Jacksonville is perfect. It's not particularly expensive and it's got a nice downtown and the beaches, and clubs and plenty of restaurants. Off season here is still beautiful; not cold or too hot or rainy. I love Nashville too, but it doesn't have a coastline and it's cold off season. Also, if after a get together you wanted to do something else, we're within a days drive of Savannah, Charleston, St.Augustine, the Keys and Miami, to name a few!
