It has been suggested that a separate "kid friendly" camping trip might be welcomed. How about one in California? Several of us are here - and there are lots of places where kids especially would find great fun. As a parent volunteer at my own kid's school, I've planned many camping events like this (OK, smaller... 10 adults with 30 kids)... and they are always fantastic fun. I've still got my menu spreadsheets (automatically generates a shopping list - I'm such a nerd). Adults... there will be PLENTY of adult time and adult sections.

Some of the local campgrounds offer private group campsites (appropriate for 50 people) - with community fire pits, etc.

I'm thinking late August - early September... but we have to move fairly fast to get reservations.

Probably the middle of August, but please don't plan around me. My finances are iffy at best and I've already booked a vacation for this summer.

But maybe this could be an annual event and I would definitely plan for next summer.

I would love to go to California!

Just thought I'd throw this out there. For a kid friendly event -it would probably be best to plan something in July.

I know shools in the south, (ie FL,) school starts back up in early August. While up here school general doesn't start until Labor Day - (and then there's all the variations in between.)

And on the flip side, some schools let out early May, while others don't get out to early June.

Best bet to take school out of the scheduling issue I'm guessing would be mid June thru mid July. Just a thought.

I'll go next year too if Mom and Angel go.

Cali is too far away for this summer because I put my son in Summer Camp and it costs to much just to not show up for a week.

In July, A few Md members and I are going rafting on the >>>Ocoee<<<. If anyone else is interested in that e-mail me or LMD.

OK - well still, we can leave the dates open for the moment.
Here are some possible locations:

Big Basin Redwood Forest
King's Canyon
El Capitan
Refugio Beach
Lake Tahoe

Wow, the river rafting sounds cool.

If you have one next year, we'll be there!

I'll start saving my pennies after we get home from Branson in July.

Tahoe in the summer can be expensive. It also doesn't have an airport that can be flown into. The nearest would be Reno.

Camp Richardson Resort & Marina
1900 Jameson Beach Rd.
South Lake Tahoe
(530) 541-1801
(800) 544-1801

That is one place we all looked into with the first gathering there. I do know that there are cabins and tent/RV camping at this place.

Tahoma might have camped there??

No Katt.... I've never camped there, I have luxury accomodations when I'm in Tahoe

but I have hiked all around Richardson and it's a wonderful place!!!! I'd enjoy the opportunity to camp there, but my first vote would go to Big Basin. I've been looking for an excuse to come "home" for a weekend. I miss the redwoods, the beach.... and my favorite wildflowers will be in bloom that time of year

The old pic I had up - of me camping was taken at Big Basin.

Each of the places has advantages. El Capitan and Refugio are both beaches near Santa Barbara... which is a nice day trip - or another great day trip is the Danish town of Solvang which has dozens of shops for hand-made pastries and sweets, great food and of course beer gartens.

Lake Tahoe has considerable night life.

I'm suppose to be in San Diego in August (health issues permitting)
How far away are those, Pete?

I was trying to go north of LA. San Diego is about an hour and a half more south than I am. Tahoe is a 10 hr drive for me... Big Basin, about 6. El Capitan, about 2 hrs (so 4 hours from San Diego - give or take).
