Yes, you could certainly do that. Or come spend the night and return the next morning (I don't know what your schedule is). I'm certain we can accommodate drop-ins - I always bring extra of everything... sleeping bags, food, tents. When in August are you in San Diego?

I would love to camp in that area in 2009 and meet all of you. Oops! I forgot....my kids are grown. May I come anyway? (driving 2200+ miles to Indiana sounds like too much time in the van :-)

Especially those with kids.....from what I understand.
It is farther for me, but closer to some I really want to meet.

We don't have any kind of camping equipment. I have been looking for camp sites that also have small cabins. Pete?? You know more about this I imagine. Haban has been camping when his kids were little. He of course has no camping equipment any more.
Or, if need be, we could look for a tent and all the stuff. You pick a place.

I'll bring a large double stove, all the pots and pans, kitchen stuff... that sort of thing. The only thing you will need is a tent and sleeping bags - and the usual stuff, flashlights, toothbrushes, etc. You can rent a tent if you like - but Big 5 and many of the local sporting goods stores are selling small dome tents (6 x 8 ish) for in the $30 range. No matter where we go - in August, a light tent will be fine, as well as light sleeping bags.
BTW, those coming from out of town or anyone else, we should probably put together an order for tent rentals if anyone needs one. We can also rent larger tents for groups (sleeping up to 10 people) if, say, some people/couples want to share expenses, or want to be closer, or set up an adult lounge and have orgies or whatever...
When we get a head count, we can prepare a menu, and then someone (hopefully fairly local to the campsite we choose) can do a shopping run. We should estimate the per-person cost for the food and campsite costs and collect the money in advance - that way we will have a budget for the grocery shopping.

This sounds like a plan to me. We don't have a problem buying stuff we need.
Oh, does anyone have a dutch oven to use on the fire? I used to make cobbler in one. How about a popcorn poper over the fire? Lol, I tried it once,,,black popcorn just wasn't something I wanted at that moment.

If a financial miracle happens, we will be there with bells on....any time that doesn't interfere with school.
If not, there's always next year.

If a financial miracle happens, we will be there with bells on.... Put your intention out there... who knows... there might be a few MD members who could help you out with the finances. LMD may swing by in her lear jet and pick you up... who knows?
