I'm mostly a live bait type unit myself Budo.Freshwater fishins my game be it here on the river or in northern Wisconsin. For supper I like crappie the best followed by walleye, perch and bass. The river cats and bullheads are best smoked during the warm weather. For the thrill of the catch its Musky and then Northern Pike for me.I dont know if youve ever fished Musky but they are a challenge. You know, throw a sucker out all day and get nothing.Ive caught quite a few but never one over the 40" legal size.Caught more Musky fishing for walleye then fishing for them.I recently took a gal from Oklahoma fishing that I met on this site.
Shes an avid fisherman even sprung a muscle in her stomach wading the river looking for cats but she wasnt impressed with our Yankee live bait.
Had to hook the leeches on for her. They dont have leeches in Oklahoma but I do like there fishing rules alot more than Wisconsins.
No limits on number of lines used or on how many you can clean in a day.

First to make one point clear. I have no problem baiting my own hook. With normal bait that is. Worms, minnows, nightcrawlers, crawdads, lizards, etc are all fine, but leeches? Ive never been exposed to that before. Everyone here that I mentioned the leeches to, both male & female, either thought I was putting them on, or went ewwwwwww. lol. Re-Oklahoma fishing rules. Basically none. lol. We can catch perch & put them on a trot line for the big 50lb + catfish. We can tie lines to empty milk jugs, and collect them later by boat. If you own & can watch 15 poles-go for it. This is probably because we have alot of lakes here that are all very well populated with fish. Alot of the big money fishing tournaments occur here in Oklahoma because everyone catches fish. To sit for hours, and come up empty handed is basically unknown here. Im serious about fishing, and I wont be the first to say I want to go home. If we are talking about eating- I like crappie, walleye, catfish & bass. I went fishing with family once off the gulf of Mexico. We brought back like 85 Corbina(sp?) The entire neighborhood was supplied with fish when we returned. lol.

Nothing better than a good pan fish!

For Bass I like to use plastic worms though.

Walleye are so good to eat, and I use night crawlers for them.

Other types, oh, Catfish,,,liver set out for a day or two...than about gagged me!

Bluegill, Crappie, and perch, I use worms, or minnows.

Ah, nothing better than water, a quiet day, and my pole in the water!

katts- We have a type of hybrid bluegill here that is about the size of a small keeper bass. It puts up a great fight & requires a larger frying pan. Yummmmm

Believe this or not but I saw a 13 pound hybrid crappie hanging on a wall in a restaurant that burned down four miles from our cabin in Land o
Lakes Brenda.
Sounds like a fishin tale...I cant prove it,the place is ashes. It couldnt be a world record because it was a hybrid.

Budo- wade fishing like surf fishing at the beach? I never did that, but as a kid Id stand out in the breaking waves & try to catch the ones the surf fishermen threw back-lol. Catch & release is ok if its a non edible fish, or one thats in danger. Otherwise, Im keeping what I catch & eating it too. Im not into the trophy thing. If its edible, its dinner. lol. Once as a teen, some friends & I were fishing off a pier in Calif. We caught a small shark. Around 50 or 60 lbs I guess. We'd heard that shark steaks are good, so we decided to split it up between us, but first I checked the stomach contents. I didnt want to eat a people eater. Jankia- Not sure, but from what Ive heard, our natural crappie tend to be bigger than some in other states? Dont know about that, but they do taste good. One weird new bit of OK fishing news. During the cooler seasons trout are stocked in some lakes. Just for that season since OK waters are much too warm for them to survive. But in recent times, baby trout have been found in some areas. It appears some trout have adapted to the hotter temps, and are now reproducing. Interesting.

Crappie in the early spring are good. After that, they tend to get "mushy" as you cook them. I like my Bluegill about the size of a mans hand. I love Bluegill!

Ok, nothing better than Walleye though.

It used to be the legal limit inMichigan on Bass was 12 inches. Now it is 15. Uck!

Bass is another fish that tastes good when it is around 9-10 inches.

Brenda in fl there are miles and miles of saltwater grass flats most places about 2-3 ft in depth i wade in these flats stalking fish.It also is an opportunity to enjoy nature because of the stealth factor animals seem to accept you once you are there and go about their normal business Awesome

That sounds cool Budo. Im just now learning that in some states I get to do things other fishermen dont because of my native american heritage. Like spear fishing, etc. Id have to say that I use live bait far more often than lures. I seem to be jinxed with lures, and if I use one, more than likely I lose it. Katts- Theres another rule we dont have. You can come here & catch all the 10/12" bass ya want.

Budo, there was a fishin thread on here a long way back in time.I suppose it can still be found but I didnt look.If I remember right Kattsmeow and another fella, cant remember his name where about the only anglers that contributed to it.
Ive never been salt water fishing but I'm sure I would enjoy that as much as freshwater.
Someday.
Heres a fishin tale for ya.This happened on the same lake we fished on when you were up in July Brenda. When I was about ten my family took our annual trip to the Cisco Chain in northern Wisconsin. We always went after the corn harvest in the fall so it was getting cold.My dad took my older brothers in the boat fishing the night we got up there. He didnt think I would last in the cold so I had to stay at the cabin. They left me with a cane pole and some worms so I fished off shore.
After they came back skunked later that evening they quickly warmed up and headed down to the lake to fish from shore like I had done while they were out in the boat.
Why?
They spotted the two Muskys in the kitchen sink I had caught while they were gone. It was my first Musky catch and I thought they were Northern Pike so I kept them, not quite legal size. I have a picture here somewhere Brenda taken holding up the first one.

I used to know of an old feller up there,he is gone on ahead now that caught many legal size Muskys...those over 40 inches, and never used anything but a cane pole.
He was crafty, never used a motor on his boat to scare them.He would put a sucker on each cane pole and just oar all over the lake.
I heard a story about him once i dont know if true or not but he got caught fishing Musky like you do catfish in Oklahoma Brenda...jugging.
Speaking of jugging heres another tale.
Out in the boat fishing Musky with my pa he latched onto a fighter. He played it for along time. The fish never came out of the water but I'll remember forever the exclamation pa made when we saw something over 4 foot long shooting through the water underneath the boat. "HOLY S--T! Did you see the size of that critter!"
We landed it,but it wasnt a Musky.
It was a fair sized sucker hooked to a long stick.
He had hooked that sucker in the back and was bring it and that long stick in sideways.

Lots of good fishing here in Missouri. There are several large impoundments. I live on the outer edge of what is known as the quad-lakes area. Truman, Lake of the Ozarks, Pomme de Terre, and Stockton. Then there's Table Rock and Bull Shoals in souhern MO. Jewels of the Ozarks indeed. There are several other Large impoundments throughout the state. And then there are the rivers. Quite a few besides The Missouri and the Mississippi. And farm ponds everywhere.
However I have to admit, I still miss saltwater fishing from when I lived on the gulf coast of Alabama.
I fish with 2# test micro-lites and 50# saltwater gear for cats, and everything in between.
I guess I just love to wet a hook.

Now I remember, you were one of the anglers that contributed to some fishing thread we had on here sometime last year.
I fished Table Rock Lake in Missouri long ago,my uncle took pa and I out one afternoon bass fishing. He was a lousy guide.
Hey Budo, your a fine scrappin partner on another thread.

I had a chance to do exactly that today Budo. While I was at the church (I was volunteered to do the custodial work until they find a new one after the old one quit) the minister was readying up his boat to go fishing,he welcomed me to come along with him.
I only said...I wish.
He knew how I meant it because I ask him nearly everyday if he has found anyone for the custodial job yet.
Dont get me wrong,I sure dont mind helping the church being a trustee, doing the homeless feedins and snow removal but we do have 260 other members. If you know what I mean.
