Your dads right katts when it comes to catfish in particular or get the scent of a Northern Pike or a Musky on your hands while walleye fishing and your about done catching any if that scent is on your bait. It only makes sense to me.
Oh and I love Crappy fishing too!

I did some casting at a local pond this week, just to get out and lose some cabin fever. I caught a bass, a crappie, and a bluegill. All three on a small weedless jighead with a green glitter Mr. Twister. Bring on the fishin' weather!!!

Crappies start spawning here in April, usually. Last year's cold snap threw them off. This year is doing a slow gradual warm-up. so I'm expecting an end of April start, if the water warms up. Most of the smaller farm ponds don't have crappie populations, and the ones that do are hard to get permission to fish. They end up with stunted overpopulations and people begging you to fish them out. Lake of the Ozarks is a "party lake" with people, houses, skiers, drunks, offshore powerboats, and "partycove". Despite all this, there is very low fishing pressure. I guess most fishermen don't want to put up with it. I'll be at my buddy's cabin soon to give you a full report. Truman lake warms up sooner than LOZ, but being surrounded by Corps of engineer property, has no houses and is a fishing lake. therefore recieving more fishing pressure. Its a bit ironic, but it works for me. I try to fish both lakes.

Thanks, our crappie spawn isnt until mid May up here.I fished Lake of the Ozarks once when I was a kid.We didnt do very well but my uncle didnt know the lake. Nothing happening in the river here yet but the ice is gone and the walleye should start running in a week or two.

I'm admittedly a salt-water fisherman, but the idea of eating a fish named a "crappie" is something I find hilarious!!!
How about a "poopie" or two for next week's menu?

Your a might bit confused there Capo.Crappies are a game fish and crappys are a rough fish called Hypophthalmichthys nobilis or Bighead carp most commonly referred to as carppys by those who have to endure their festering in there waters.

If it's all the same to you guys, I'll stick with tuna.
I know what they are, can pronounce their names, they are great to catch, and I love to eat them!!!

I live on a lake in Central WI that provides many meals of fish. Bluegill to 10", Perch to 13.5", crappie to 13" and my largest walleye was 6.5#.
Love going out and getting half a dozen gills at dawn from 7.5-9.5" during spring/summer/fall. My deep fryer sees a lot of use!

Ummmmm excuse me Capo.....we talking the woman or the thing hanging? LOL -- I did a quick search for a yellowtail image and that's the first one that popped up. They both looked like "keepers" to me.
The one I kept weighed 19 kilos (about 42 pounds). Thankfully, I have a fresh jug of soy sauce and loads of wasabi!!!

The lake is finally opening up today with the wind. Should be able to start hitting my favorite spring spots within a week. Once that ice leaves, the fish get freaked out for a couple of days. Guess I need to look the boat over, install the batteries, electronics, etc... Looking forward to lots of fresh fish!

That didn't take long. The lake opened up fully sometime last night with the wind and there are only a few ice floes remaining. May get the boat out this weekend or early next week. I need a fresh crappie or bluegill dinner.
