I coach youth football-the team I'm currently working with is 12-14 year olds; last year, I worked with 7-11 year olds, and I will likely go back to that division for next season. I absolutely love it; when my employer offered to move me up to full-time status, my one condition was that they work with me in the fall to give me the flexibility to make practices and games.

yes the younger ones are easier to control Baloney!!!!!...this stupid troll shit's getting old fast...this isn't the place for it...
No one coaches young kids to control them...they do it out of a desire to maybe make a difference in some of their young and receptive lives...maybe get a few off in the right direction when but for sports, they might not have much of a chance otherwise....plus it's just fun!!...coaching a bunch of 5-6 year olds in T-ball is way better than Saturday morning cartoons ever were....

FACT. i have 3 sons 1 is 7 other is 12. (other 5 not old enough yet) the coach that coaches 7-11 has no problems what so ever. FACT. The coach that coaches 11-14 has a harder time controlling the older kids FACT. you telling me i can get my 5 year old to help me to do the(eg) washing without any arguments, but my 13 year old takes ten goes,oh yes because the older kids take more time and attention to control......erm! FACT and its not about control in the sense of you are a robot, it control then to move when and were is needed to win a match.....dump f***!

I coached the "yutes" myself. Little League for 12-14 year olds and flag football for the same ages. Nevermind him alivenwell35,he will just give another fake "I'm sorry" like he did on another sports thread.

That describes my involvement in the CNFL to a "T," alive; most of the kids in our league are from the inner city...I'm glad I can give back somehow; and everybody better believe that my chest was puffed up when one of the kids told us coaches: "If it wasn't for football, I'd be running the streets." And yeah, it's FUN!! Tomorrow will be very fun; we have a playoff game against a team that we tied once, and lost to once.

Just wanted to stop by and see what's up today-don't worry; I won't butt heads with our English friend in here...dammit, I'm excited! PLAYOFFS! I gotta start my pre-game ritual: slicing up about 20 pounds of apples for the players; I have them eat them during the game for energy(It's always worked for me when I play). The kids actually love it, and for most of them (my own son included), I'm sure it's the healthiest snack they get all week.

the problem they have with my oldest sons team(for us anyway) is that the kids are getting to a more independant age so teaching(controling, guiding) becomes a lot harder. they will play a few games and everything will be fine, psitions etc. then the next game they have to strap the goaly to the goal posts because he doesn't want to be in goal anymore.

that would work all the same. Actually, it would not: the processed sugars of candy would cause a momentary "high," which would be followed by a period of lethargy that would make things worse than if they had nothing at all; while the apples have natural fruit sugars, which last a little longer-and when these fruit sugars wear off, the high carbohydrate content of the apples gives them an extended "burn." Pears would be just as good -maybe even better- but they're way too messy to eat during a game, and can't really be sliced. Not to mention, I would never give these boys something that would promote nothing but obesity and tooth decay; I don't give my own kids candy, and during the season, I feel like I have many other sons.

And we used to have oranges in the locker room at halftime during football season I was hoping to get some of the "snack parents" to bring bananas for after the game-GREAT source of potassium, for those tired muscles; but not during the game-they're high in tryptophan, which can make you drowsy...oranges would be good, but if you get some orange juice into a cut or scrape-OWW! I may mix those in next season, though...thanks guys!

Hey Steve..about your work working with you ...GREAT!!! About the snack deal...I try to have my 'team folks' not have bananas around becuse they are high in fat ..and lo in potassium ..say to strawberries or kiwi fruit. My problem with the high school athletes I coach is them drinking those energy drinks....I wrote 6to a company and they gave me a case of their drink which is pretty good taste wise and better for you nutrionally....the important thing is---the Kids love it!!! I've been doing this coaching thing for almost 20 years now...I LOVE IT but hate the friggin paperwork!
