Last week after the Packers were soundly defeated by the Cowboys I made the comment about how the refs were paid off by Dallas. That was done jokingly because we lost, but this isnt about that, its about officiating in general.I just wonder how many of you notice how bad its gotten since replays were used to get the call corrected. I'm all for challenges,it doesnt noticably lengthin the game but have some refs have slacked off because of it? To me the new fouls called against defensive backs has really taken alot out of the game. They are not challengable and up to the discretion of the ref to call. Some call them alot others hardly ever, there is nothing consistent about them. Sure, they want to make the game easier for the offense to make games more interesting, look at all the high scoring games lately, but I miss the tough defensive games of hard fought football. I say let the players decide the game the old way,not a particular refs decision to either let them play hard or enforce that stupid no touching rule after 5 yards.

ahhhh....The NFL is a huge business and the main thing of any business is making the almighty buck....employees of the NFL (ie the referees) are there to make sure the games are interesting but that the games move along quickly . Sadly, the "tough defensive games of hard fought football' as you refer to,are gone (or at least few and far between).NFL players are different these days...they are looking for buck which I can't fault them for--today society is drastically changed from back when Foresett Gregg,Jerry Kramer,Ray Nitzchky ,Jim Otto ,Gene"Big Daddy" Litscomb and others of that NFL era played their hearts out for MAYBE $2500 a game!

The college game that the refs are being called on, how about that one? I think Penn was playing. The same ref team did the Michigan/Ohio game too.
I really have a problem with the 'Holding call" this year in the NFL.

Right on katts!!! How about that stupid (but legal) thing...coaches calling a time out just before the opposing team makes what will be a game winning field goal??? That was started by Denver this year and has been used by Oakland and others since...

Yea,so do I Katts,it takes to much out of the game in my opinion. Check this out so long as I'm bashin refs.
NEW YORK (AP) -- The NFL is looking into a postgame comment by Baltimore cornerback Samari Rolle, who contends an on-field official called him "boy" during the Ravens' 27-24 loss to New England.
Rolle identified the official by his number rather than by name following the Monday night game, which was marked by several disputed officiating decisions.
"The refs called me a boy," Rolle said, according to a transcript of postgame comments provided to the media by the Ravens. "No. 110 called me a boy."
Both Rolle and the official, identified in the NFL official guide as head linesman Phil McKinnely, are black. The 53-year-old McKinnely played in the NFL as an offensive tackle from 1976-82. He spent five seasons with Atlanta and one each with the Rams and Chicago.
"I will be calling my agent in the morning and sending my complaint," the 31-year-old cornerback added. "I have a wife and three kids. Don't call me a boy. Don't call me a boy on the field during a game because I said, 'You've never played football before."'
The Ravens were demonstrative after the game about the officiating, especially on the final drive that led to Tom Brady's pass to Jabar Gaffney for the winning touchdown with 44 seconds left. After the touchdown, set up by a fourth-down defensive holding call on Jamaine Winborne, linebacker Bart Scott was penalized 15 yards for complaining and another 15 yards for throwing the official's flag.
"In a game of this magnitude, you don't make that kind of call," Rolle said. "Let the players decide the outcome of the game. You can crown them champions now. I'm not taking anything away from them. They are a great team. They're not asking the refs to help them, but it's just an empty feeling."

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- The NFL has fined official Jim Quirk one game check for inappropriate physical contact with players, including Green Bay Packers linebacker Nick Barnett.
The fine totals $8,150, NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said Friday.
The decision came after Quirk grabbed Barnett by the neck and threw him to the ground while breaking up a scuffle during the Packers' loss at Chicago on Sunday. He was in no "scuffle" he was pulled of a pile of players after a play.Replays showed that as Barnett tried to get up, Quirk maintained his hold, leading Barnett to use his hands to push himself away

Trying to ice the kicker has been a part of the game for as long as I can remember and this is just the latest twist to it...if a kicker can't handle that, he has no business playing with the big boys....
JMHO...

As I saw the other night, Central didn't have any time outs left to do that to Purdue at the end of the game. Bummer too. Everyone I have talked to was going for Central too.
