Determining who our nations top college football team is at the end of the season is not looking any better for us in the future. Now we can add secrecy to the BCS formula because the American Football Coaches Association announced this week coaches’ final ballots will be kept secret starting in 2010. The coaches’ poll counts as one-third of the BCS formula for determining which schools play for the national title so why the secrecy? Because the salaries of college coaches is tied to how there teams finish in the polls...thats why. Thats were the problem is.If a coaches ballot is kept secret that coach can vote his own team in with no regard to if they deserve it or not. Coaches have personal grudges against certain other coaches and teams and give little regard to football teams outside the six BCS conferences, thats a given...but the ability to vote in your own team without any repercussions for doing it when its not deserved does nothing to help solve the BCS problems .

I find it to a cowardly act--not one I would want to see backed by the head coach of a team for whom I rooted.
I can think of a couple of conferences that would favor this....

I dont believe a coach like your Pete Carroll would play any game off the field using secrets. Giving that more thought...all it will take to make other coaches stand up and accept recognition is for one to start. Now would be a good time for any coach to come out and say that they since they hold student athletes accountable themselves for their football-related duties throughout the season, they will do the same and be accountable for there own.

Hurry up September !
Alabama once again on probation(text book scandel)..if you want to call it probation. They give up a few wins..wow. And since they have been on probation two other times in recent memory..I think the NCAA..let them off easy. Probally just about any school has done things..Bama are just bad at get caught.

A few seasons ago, Coach Tressel refused to cast a ballot after the Michigan-OSU game because he didn't want his vote to remotely determine the outcome of who he would play in the BCS championship game.....an honorable move that put Florida in the game instead of a rematch with Michigan.
Sometimes good deeds DO go punished!!!
I suspect if the coaches were polled and were free to speak openly without fear of reprisal, many, if not most, would prefer to be taken out of the voting loop and the ultimate champion be determined on the field, through a playoff. It isn't the coaches that keep the current BCS system alive, it's the AD's. And unfortunately, it's the AD's of the Big Ten and the PAC 10 that are the biggest abusers of all.

Sometimes good deeds DO go punished!!! Twice, actually. Michigan had the opportunity to play USC in the Rose Bowl that year!
And you're right, it's the ADs (and the conference presidents) that are letting their bowl loyalties (and money) prevent a playoff system.

Coaches should never have been involved in the first place. Just how many games do you think a coach watches of a team that he is not going to play? No head coach has the time, during the season to watch 15 to 20 games each week, to see which team is playing the best. They could tell you how good the teams in their league and on the teams on their schedules are, but seriously, the coaches poll is a joke. Then again, all polls are a joke, just as BS championship is a joke.
Some day, perhaps there will be a D-I football champion. It may even happen in my lifetime. Then again, I'm getting old & time is getting short for that to happen.

With Pryor as the QB at OSU we will be garbage and besides that Tressel forgot how to win the big game(EXCEPT against Michigan) I dont trust Pryor's decision making at all but........ we will see.
Did anyone else hear about Minnesota and Michigan talking about playing a non-conference game for the next couple of years so they can play for the little brown jug because the next two years is off years in the big ten that shall be interesting to see how that plays out

With all due respect to your opinion flipflash, I couldn't disagree with you more.....
Our beloved Bucks will likely be considerably better than they were last year...
Pryor was a frosh who was thrown into the fray early. While I missed the spring game, I've talked to many who were there. Pryor is a year older, a year's worth of experience smarter, and he looked like what all the hype was all about when he was recruited. He's driven to be the best he can be, and what you see next year will be night & day different that what we saw last year.
The biggest problem last year, the offensive line, anchored by Alex Boone (last years most over rated player in college football), has been fixed by graduation. Boren is a beast and Adams is healthy. It could be one of the best O lines in the country.
Boom Herron will have folks forgetting about Beanie and his injuries before the season is half over. Saine is healthy for the first time since he's been there. Berry, the kid coming in is, according to folks I know in Florida, going to make us very happy.
The D line get better as the year went on and 5 of the 6 who played most are back. 2 BIG holes to fill at linebacker, but the bodies are there to potentially fill them. D backfield is solid despite losing Jenkins. The kicking game is solid. Wide reciever is 6 deep and will as fast or faster that the Holmes/Gonzalez days.
I have issues with Tressel sometimes too, but who would you replace him with? Some clown who would have us in the NCAA doghouse? Have you already forgotten Cooper and all the trouble we had with all the misfits he recruited. 2 significant loses ( I don't count Texas last year as a negative, we were supposed to lose big and damn near won) and all the winning he's done before (a national championship & 3 convincing BCS bowl wins) means nothing??. Tressel finally has the guys he needs to open things up with, and word is he will. I hope he stays forever. His overwhelming pluses far out way his few negatives.
Tressel FINALLY has the speed to compete with the best on the national stage. I am looking forward BIG TIME to this year. It could be the one that finally gets the gorilla off the Buckeyes' backs.
The 2nd game of the year will tell if I'm right or wrong.

A college QB doesn't need good decision making skills. If he has enough raw talent, he can succeed. Now in the NFL, it's a whole other story, which is why so many high picks flop at the position.
Pryor is the wild card. The entire season will be dependent on what he brings to the table. I know it's not fair to put all the pressure on one person, but it's there whether you acknowledge it or not.
I'm just not convinced Pryor is all that and a bag of nachos. He can run, and he can make his own receivers look worse than they are. That's all I've seen from him so far.

With all respect KJ, what you saw last year was a raw freshman suddenly thrown into the lions den with a mediocre offensive line, a gifted but fragle RB, and a couple of good but not great receivers to throw to....
I know people who follow things closely over there in Columbus...including the retired SID...and everyone I've talked to says Pryor's come a long way since then...the all say he really is the real deal.
we'll see I guess...
