The draft is this Thursday. Any thoughts, or does anyone care. Here in Charlotte, we have the #12 pick. Odds are they will take Gerald Henderson from Duke if he is available. It would fit their pattern. Take a local guy, who is undersized for his position.
From what I see though, it does not appear to be a particularly good or deep draft. After Griffin & Thabeet go, it doesn't look there are any other obvious studs in this draft. At least that is my take. I'm sure that someone will emerge as a great player, but I just don't see who that is going to be.

I'd like to care, but being a Lakers fan, I can't invest too much in it. Odds are they'll draft some European player they can keep overseas for a couple of seasons just to keep him off the cap.
And for the record, I agree. This does seem to be a weak draft. I mean, Rubio is supposed to go high, and who the hell is impressed with him?

My guess, the Cavs will have a worse record next year, than they this year. Shaq is done. He is too old, too slow & a too much of black hole on offense. Yes, he can rebound & take up space in the middle, but he can't run the floor anymore. He will clog up the middle of the lane, which will only hurt LeBron's game.

I agree with SY on this one. Shaq's career has been reduced to a series of sound bites. He's broken and done. This is going to insure Lebron bolts.

I hate to say it but I agree with Say_Yes & kjac.
It's so hard to be a Cleveland sports fan. But I'm just the woman to do it!

I think the Cavs have insured Lebron will join the Knicks or heat in 2010. Not being a Cavs fan myself, I don't care if they trade him. But at this point, it's the smart thing to do.

The Cavs got Shaq for essentially nothing...and unloaded some dead meat in the process...
Shaq is coming off a very good year statistically (18+ pts/game, 7-8 boards)...He's still the best passing big man in the game...a game he knows how to play VERY well...
Though not the man he was a few years ago, he's still a beast...especially compared to what the Cavs currently have in the middle now...
The Cav's 1/2 court game will keep him from huffing & puffing as much as in Phoenix's run & gun...
They get 2-3 decent years out of him and he will have been worth it...
This could work out nicely for the Cavs...

I don't see it ending well in Cleveland. Shaq's already showing signs that his fall is hard and fast. At best he's the third option on offense, and can give them maybe 7-9 boards during the 50 games he actually plays.
But honestly, I think the majority of stories about him by the all-star break will be about his soundbytes and him not being the player he once was.
Much like last year.
The Cavs needed a young stud talent to grow with Lebron, and make it harder for him to leave when the contract expires. (See Kobe)
Now, by the time the contract expires, he'll be all alone with no reason to stay.

Lets see. The Cavs get Shaq & the Magic get Vince Carter.
Advantage Magic. They showed that they were the better team than the Cavs in the eastern conference finals. This move should only serve to enhance their superiority.

I agree if the Magic can keep Hedo SY. Otherwise, it's nothing but a lateral move.

Lets see. The Cavs get Shaq & the Magic get Vince Carter.
Advantage Magic................ I don't know......
The Cavs essentially gave up nothing that mattered to get Shaq...and dumped Wallace's $14 mil contract in the process.....
The Magic gave up Rafer Alston & Courtney Lee to get Carter. Both of them were solid contributors. With Carter comes his 3 yr, $52 mil contract. And now they don't have much $$ to dangle in front of Turkoglu to keep him.
The Cavs are solid in the backcourt. Once they dump Szczerbiak and his $14 mil contract, they'll have some big $$ to go after another horse. And judging by their draft choice, I'm guessing that's exactly what they intend to do.
Could well end up advantage Cavs when it's all said & done...

As for the Alston thing, he had to go. They were bogged down at point, and needed to make one person the bonafide starter. Alston was a spare tire. So essentially they traded Lee's contribution for Carter's.
I have to agree with one point though. I don't see the Magic being as willing as the Lakers seem to be to go over the luxury tax.
But you have to admit, stranger things have happened.
No Hedo, no improvement. And even though Shaq is falling apart at the seams, he's better on a bad day than Ben Wallace on a good one. Not get the rings better, but better.
Jason Kidd is supposedly looking for new employment. Now there's a move that could put either in league with the Lakers.

Of course, Shaq is in the last year of that deal, so they will create some salary room, when that expires, which likely was the key to the deal (well that & supposedly that LeBron wanted him).

I agree with your take on Alston.
While Shaq is nowhere near the force he once was, I don't think I'd say he's falling apart at the seams just yet. He's coming off a pretty good year. As you said, Shaq on his worst day is better than Wallace on his best. In fairness though, the Cavs got some good minutes out of him last year. Just not $14 mil's worth!! A shame too, cause he was a beast back when!!
The Cavs will have some $$ to play with...Hmmmmm.....A good point & a good shooting guard instead of 2 good points...what a concept!! Turkoglu would look pretty good in gold & wine!!!

Never happen alive. Hedo's contract is up this year. No way does he sign a one year deal with anybody.
