Big Ben (quarterback of the superbowl champion pittsburgh steelers) had himself a nasty little wreck on his suzuki hyabusa crotch rocket yesterday........and he didnt have a helmet on.
First thing I have to say.......that boy is damn lucky to be alive. Took a faceplant into a cars windshield, broken jaws, and other facial wounds......apparently nothing carreer threatening at this point........what the hell is he thinking........its not enough that he is motoring around pittsburgh on the fastest production motorcycle known to man, but he needs to do it helmetless also. If I were a die-hard steeler fan, I would be pissed off at this jerk for his flippant attitude towards our collective future.
Motorcycles are great fun.........but wear a helmet........particularly if you are paid millions of dollars to entertain your community.

The term "Dumber than a box of rocks" comes to mind. I'm not a big fan of nanny government but people should be smart enough to wear a helmet. Looks like we may lose our helmet law here in Michigan.

I saw an interview with him yesterday that was recorded before his accident. He stated that there wasnt a law that he had to wear a helmit so he doesnt. He also said he would obey the law if it required wearing a helmut.
Yea right.
He didnt even obey the law that required a motorcycle license.

I dont technically have a motorcycle license either, yet Ive safely navigated over 13,000 miles on two wheels so far.......and I always wear a helmet........even been pulled over by state troopers who looked right at my drivers license which had no motorcycle endorsement, and heard nothing of it.......I would venture a guess that the majority of bikers on the road today do not have a true motorcycle license......its the insurance, registration, and inspection that they really care about.

I've ridden very short distances without a helmet but I felt pretty exposed. These days I'm so used to a seat belt in a car that I feel like I'm going to fall out if I don't wear one.

I haven't seen it but I had a friend who spent the last 25 years of his life in a wheelchair and had brain damage due to geting thrown out of a rolling car. He was thrown out and the car rolled over him.

Apparently Cowher had spoken to him previously about being careful on the motorcycle, but if obviously fell on deaf ears. Do you think they will put any kind of clause in his contract re:dangerous behavior or has he learned his lesson? Guess he can be thinking about it while he is sipping his dinner through a straw....

Even in California there is a helmet law.
If Michigan gets rid of this law, the insurance rates for motorcycles will sky rocket.
Plus, if you get in an accident and don't have one on, they just might not cover you.
Wear a helmet to play football, but not one on a motorcycle, out in traffic where alot of people in cars don't watch for bikes.

clause in his contract re:dangerous behavior
I predict that the NFL will begin putting this type of terminology in all contracts for high dollar players......it will be known as the "Roethlisberger Clause"
Big Ben had a better type of broken jaw surgery where it didnt require wiring his jaw shut.......bottom line......no straw diet.

Did everyone fail to notice the part about the little old lady making an illegal left turn in front of him?
No charges were filed against her. It was obviously Big Ben's fault for not stopping in the middle of the street to give her the right of way.

I almost had my own Roethlisberger yesterday when out for a ride (with a helmet though)......someone ran a stop sign in front of me as Im going 80 or so, locked up the brakes immediately, and just slid.....missed hitting head on into the side of the truck by a foot or two......people are inconsiderate bastards for the most part, and think nothing of almost killing someone through their self-absorbed ignorance.
boo to humanity.......thank the Lord for those 2 extra feet.

I saw that in real life when I was about 8, there were four people in the front seat of a car, it crashed, one was decapitated. Yes, I always wear a seat belt, and if you're my passenger, you'd better too, or that car's not going anywhere!

.......because some crazy old woman decided to make an illegal left turn and caused him to crash. (lets not leave that out, its relevant) I wonder how much her fine was......failure to yield right of way, reckless endangerment causing an accident......ah well, old ladies arent newsworthy I guess
