I'm going to be 50 on Tuesday. Since I've been single, I buy myself gifts for special occasions. I'm my own Significant One. Because I don't want to start playing Bingo yet, I've gifted myself this year with Belly Dancing classes. I attended my first class on Friday after work. I felt like a clumsy oaf but it was fun!! It's aerobic exercise, isometric exercise, and we stretch as well. I was a bit sore when class was over but felt great. I'm liking this a lot. Happy Birthday to me!!

Thanks Heaven. I know you dance and are aware that it's great exercise. Lots more fun then aerobics class.

You're going to have SO much fun!!!

As you may have read, a bunch of us met just West of Reno a month or so ago to attend "Wiggles of the West" demonstration and competition...one of the neatest things was to see the wide range of (mostly) women ALL thourougly enjoying themselves (as did their audiences)

I know I had a few kinks and twinhes the next day just sitting in my seat "empathizing" the moves. Yep, great aerobic exercise ...and sensual, to boot!

(Wait'll you see the assortment of costumes that are available ...wish I had a place to bellydance in this little town )

You betcha!! I've been thinking about trying belly dancing too, if I can work the scheduling out (evening classes are tough for me, getting up at 4 and all )

Oh yes, Belly dancing is for all ages and all sizes too. Matter of fact, it is better to have a "tummy".

There is alot around me too.
Oh and the costumes,,,

I was a week too late for the belly dancing classes, so I'm hoping to start with the next sessions in 6 weeks.

This dance studio is the best. They have different levels of classes and you can start anytime you like and move to the next level whenever you feel you're ready. You only pay for the classes you attend. For example, I bought 10 classes. I can go Tuesday, Saturday, or Sunday afternoons or Friday evenings. So flexible. I wish more studios saw the wisdom in that.

Yes, there were women of all shapes there. I went to a Pure dance exhibit a couple of weeks ago. They do tribal dance. Again, women in all shapes. We women are a beautiful variety. Yes, the costumes are fantastic. For now, I'm wearing yoga pants, a tank top, and a borrowed hip scarf. I'm window shopping for costumes.

Do it 1stsignofspring!!!

suzie:

You're my "hero", lol! That's the kind of stuff I admire, trying something new at our age can be very invigorating.

My daughter bought a VHS tape and a DVD of Neena & Veena, the Bellydancing twins, and I tried them, had a lot of fun with them, even felt "sexy" adopting the diffeent postures, and moved muscles I didn't know I had, lol! Wish I had the consistency to keep doing them, would probably benefit my middle section a lot!

You ARE sexy if you feel like it. The women in my class are all different shapes and sizes. So are the tribal dancers that I saw. All are beautiful. You'll carry yourself differently if you keep it up.

I had to miss class last week -- too busy. I was worried that this week would be like starting all over again. It wasn't. I wasn't quite so clumsy this time. That gave me a better workout. I was sore on Saturday. I stretched more and worked it out. It's so much fun. I went on eBay and bought 2 hip scarves with LOTS of jingly coins. There are scarves we can borrow for class but it's easier to tell if I'm shakin' my booty enough if I have my own at home.

[QUOTE]You know, I think I will look into it! I'm sure Fort Wayne has some classes somewhere!

Spring...I live in Bloomington, I've been thinking about driving to Indianapolis for classes just for a change, You're right, there are classes in Fort Wayne. I met some of the dancers at a workshop in Bloomington.
I would love to do tribal. I went to a show here and got to see the lady who created tribal dancing along with her star pupil who is also co-owner of their company. It was great.
I definitely don't consider myself a dancer but I'm an enthusiast and I love taking the classes even if I don't have enough nerve to perform.

For anyone close enough that might want to go, there's a belly dance recital in Kokomo IN, Saturday, Oct 28. If anyone is interested in info on the workshop or going to watch the recital, let me know and I'll send you the info.
