If you live alone - I want you to share your thoughts about things like: things you do because you live alone, daily challenges, why you have chosen to live alone, friends, pets, music, sex, support, things you like about living alone, self motivation, wishes, advantages and disadvantages, how to survive --- you get the drift - just anything that deals positively with this subject.

Well, I don't live alone, I have a cat. I am the only human here though, and I like it. Why? Because there are no compromises to be made. If I decide I want to paint something blue, it gets blue, if I want to watch NASCAR, I watch it.
When I first got divorced, I tried having room mates, and either I'm very unlucky, or there are just a bunch of nuts running around looking for a place to stay. Better that it's just me and Harry the Cat.

I am living alone for the first time in my life. My daughter has her own apartment now. At first the quiet was unsettling and I missed her company. Its been nearly a year now and I have to say I have adjusted quite well. The funny part about it I probably spend more time with my daughter now then when she was living at home. Its been two and half years since I have lived without a man under my roof. Although I miss him at times, being on my own has given me the opportunity to find happiness and strength within myself. I do have a manic cat to keep me entertained and I am rarely ever lonely. My life is rich and fufilled in so many ways.Great friends and family take care of that. I would love to share my life with that special someone once again if its in the stars. In the meantime I am enjoying life on my own. As far as sex goes living alone does not rule out that option at all

for the first time in a very long time i have finally embraced living alone.
i think sometimes that it's harder for a woman. there's the house maintenance, and car maintenance, and (in my case) the animals, firewood to split and haul, hay, fence to fix, plumbing (i know much about the plumbing in my house at this point!) then there is still the laundry, cooking, cleaning, shopping. and no one to pick up the child when you have to work later than usual.
the day to day living is all on your plate. and the financial responsibility is all on your plate. no additional income.
but as my daughter says... "its all good mom."
peace.

I liked the alone part from day one. It is so much more peaceful than what I had. I am cleaner and somewhat more organized than what my wife was. I don't live in chaos anymore. I have far far less materially, but much more contentment.
It certainly isn't painless but I do find satisfaction in many of the little things. The hardest part for me is eating properly. Go figure. After 30 years in the food business.

i agree about the food thing. cooking a full and balanced meal for a family (small as it was!) was always a must. and i used to love to plan the meals, and shop, and cook them.
but with just me and a teenager, well... we just kind of graze on what's ever around many nights....

Yes, I live alone (okay, I have a cat) and have done so for 13 of the last 15 years. Do I get lonely? Of course I do. Then again, I would much rather be single and looking, than married and miserable.
As for the challenges, my life is better now, than it was when I was married. While nothing beats a great relationship, there are few things worse than a bad marriage. So, I don't dwell on the past, though I try to learn from past mistakes. I don't dwell on the future, as it is unknown. I do try to live in the moment.
For me, motivation is the challenge, as I have few outside sources to motivate me to be a better man. I have to find other sources of inspiration and motivation to give me the focus to not just set goals, but to exceed them. I'm not religious, so I can not draw from that source.
For me, I find my greatest source of inspiration to be the success of others. I see what they have done, how they have over come obstacles to find success and happiness. I have long term friends and family members who have great relationships, so I have the positive feed back from those people and I am able see the reality of how good it can be.
Anyway, that is what works for me.

I live w/ my dog as in canine..hehe. I have indifferent thoughts on this but over all it seems to work for me. I live in a very rural laek area subdivision Alot of retireees or wk-enders so local dating is difficult.
So I'm turned to the internet & online dating even if its a few email a day.

I like living alone. Like heaven, my ideal, even when younger, would have been side-by-side condos with a connecting door. Like Toucher, I like that I don't have to compromise my time or space. I am more than open that I have become selfish with it all: my time, my space, my choices. Then again, that's why I'm not looking for somebody. If I didn't have to live with me, I wouldn't. It's difficult when it comes to finding someone to do the handiman chores. I got overchareged by a guy this past summer, but I wasn't able to do the work myself, so I paid. On the other hand, if I want to stay out until 2 or 3 in the morning with friends, I do and no recriminations or questions. Well, except for the glares from the unfed cat.

Hah!! Those 'unfed' cats usually have a full dish of dry food as backup. They don't care about the food, they just object to their human slave rebelling on them!

They don't care about the food, they just object to their human slave rebelling on them! Heaven, you are of course correct. there is dry food always out. The real guilt comes from the sweet little doggy with the big, sad eyes that greets me at the door with such excitement. He's so thrilled that I'm back home, that he isn't alone any more, that I end up feeling awful for going out in the first place. Geez, it's like havig someone depend on me to be there for them...ewwwwww.

i love living single, would like to date more but not many options for that here.
i always need help lifting, like right now the truck is loaded with redwood slabs. my son won't be up until next week....hence the unsightly blue plastic tarp over the truck.
i would love to find a woman to do the yard work. but that fantasy also involves, daisy dukes and a tank top, plus some bending over.
