I am too much into being attached at the hip. I would drive him crazy fast. Then I would be alone again.

I don't mean attached at the hip.
I mean he's there when you need him....and when you don't.
He's there when your lonely....and when your not.
And he's there when your sleeping and can quietly roll over into the strength of his arms.

I have been alone for long periods of time so I have learned how to be alone and enjoy my own company. I am comfortable with me and where I am at this time in my life. But there are times I would love to have someone to share with. So I am not loving it or hating it. I am just accepting of where I am right now.

I've gotten used to being alone.. it's not that bad.. when I feel the need for company, I get in my car and visit friends. I sit on the front deck and watch the kids in the neighborhood play.. take my dog for a walk uptown.. there is usually someone at the town square for me to talk to for a while.

I understand the concept of "getting used" to being alone and even the concept of "being happy" with yourself. While that is all well and good....I do not think people are made to be alone. Humans thrive on touch and love...it is a proven fact. I think that is why animals tend to be so good for our seniors....it helps them to thrive. I have one teenager left at home who is gone alot of the time...so I guess I am getting somewhat used to what it may be like.
Being alone is one thing....but being lonely is yet another. I love being alone at times but when I may feel lonely....it is not a good feeling. I love people and I love being in a relationship where love flourishes and grows. I flourish in an intimate and loving relationship......so I for one do not want to be alone, but will accept it for now...kicking and screaming all the way.....until my special lifelong SO comes along. That is my story and I'm sticking to it....

I'm just not the type to live alone...son, roomie, two dogs and four cats. I just don't want to live with my SO - it's wonderful having a place to escape to!

I have lived alone for over 20 years. I LOVE it. Do I get lonely sometimes, sure. But then I go in my back yard and the neighbors pit bull bitch snaps, growls and barks at me and I am good again.

Thank you Happy for the offer of the dog....but if you are going to take him or her back then I will cry....I get too attached. I watched my friends cat Poocha....while they went on a month trip to India....I cried when she left...
Bill...too funny!! Are you comparing a woman to that pit bull?

Well doesn't exactly calm me down. Just lets me remember why I am single. Brings that old song " Thank God and greyhound she's gone" to mind.

I can not remember the last time I lived alone .... Maybe those couple of years after school, without a roommate before getting married ... and having kids ... and more kids ... More than 30 years ago? whew! At 55 I still have 3 teens at home ... I simply ADORE the rare nights when all 3 kids stay overnight at their dad's house & I get to listen to the quiet.
I might have a different opinion if it were ALL THE TIME but right now I am lookiing forward to being an empty-nester. Been doing this *Mom thing* for over 30 years now.
