I am not presently working, but would love to just work a part time job, well...one that paid like a full time job. I notice at times on the job sites that some of the part time jobs do pay more per hour than the full time jobs, so I guess the trick is to get 2 part time jobs, then you're all set. There are actually a few places that give benefits to part time employees, I think one place is Home Depot, another Stew Leonards, I can't recall the rest.

Considering how badly Home Depot got hit in the marlket recently, I wouldn't be banking on them right now. Some places will pay more per hour if you don't get benefits. I haven't heard of any that have higher wages and benefits, especially for part-time.

Since there is a worldwide nursing shortage , I will never be out of work.

But if I was in need of a job in my area, I would see where the openings were
and possibly retrain myself in that occupation.

You're never too old to learn

Part-time is all I want. The 5-day, 40-hr week is too long. I did the moonlighting for a long time and saved every dollar I could, hoping to get to this stage. So far, so good. Videbimus

I'm a few weeks away from 64 and definitely working VERY full time as well as doing volunteer work. I'm on call, not just for myself but as backup for the relative noobies who've only been doing this a year or so. Oh, and by the way, I'm still learning too...I'm in training for newer technology (okay, so it's 20 years old instead of 30...that's STILL newer yanno!).

I dunno...if I could afford to travel around and do pretty much what I please, it might be different, but they keep making it tougher and tougher to say no more to that paycheck. And where else can I spend my breaks in a NASCAR simulator and stuff like that?

I am working full time and probably will for the next several years. I enjoy working most of the time, but I will admit I would like the luxury of being able to work part time. I think 20 -25 hours a week would be great, but at this point in time I am not financially secure enough to do that. Maybe some day!

I work about 33 hours a week... I'm 51. I'd prefer to work a full 40 hour week but Uncle Wally... and you all probably know which retail giant I'm talking about... won't let me. It's very difficult to get by on my current pay/hours but I plan to stick it out for at least a year... then I will qualify for for the better insurance, bonuses, etc.

What sucks is that I have at least 30 years of combined experience in office work.... and the only job I could find was at Wally World.

I have a little over 10 years to go till I retire from the university system. After that, I won't HAVE to work, but I may do some consulting, just to keep my toe in the water, but not much, since my plan is to show my sweetie the world.

I work full time in a funeral corporation and I work about another 9-10 hours a month at a part-time bookkeeping job. I can't imagine NOT working daily at challenges that someone will pay me for. I expect to work for many years yet - why not?

I am working full time ... sometimes more ..

Minky mentioned the nursing shortage .... I imagine I would never be unintentionally unemployed. And as a nurse I have so many options.

I like the job I am doing right now, although it can be quite stressful at times. I am the director of a department in a Skilled / Rehab / Long Term Care facility. I have a 40 (give or take) hour week with flexibility. No weekends. No holidays.

I recently earned another raise & brought home my annual vacation paycheck ... Just in time for the holidays.

I still have 3 teens at home. My flexible hours, earned time off, & vacation time allows me the time I need to be home for them.

One of these days when the kids are all grown & graduated from high school (3 years & 6 months not that I'm counting) I will cut back to just part time. I can sell this house & cut my expenses..... and ..... and ....

oh, the possibilities ......

I work full time in the school system as a paraprofessional in Special Needs. Running(litteraly) after 9 little special boys is definitely physical work. I love my job and have no plans to retire as long as I can keep on moving

I work about 60 hours a week at one job. That’s actually a lot less than I used to.

I’m a workaholic, but working hard to cut back.

But a big career change is probably going to be coming pretty soon.
