I had a resent Bone Density test done, I was unpleasantly surprised to find out I have lost 2 inches in height. This sucks Anyone else shrinking?

Sure...I used to be nearly 5'9", now I'm 5'7" even. Bone density's still good though - one of the few advantages of being overweight most of my life.

Men also have to deal with the issue of shrinkage, as we age, though typically we are not thinking in terms of our height.

It's the difference between muscle and fat.
Muscles contract....fat doesn't.

minky: Anyone else shrinking? ...Oh yes... joints, back, etc., all seem to lose some cartilage, or whatever keeps them from rubbing together.
...I was 6', when in the regular military and have lost over an inch in height, but it is all in leg length, inseam. I was shot in both legs, so possibly, that had something to do with it. My Dad used to be about 6-3 and I am taller than he is now, so I guess most people shrink.
...Maybe one of those Medieval stretching machines would help. At times, I thought it would feel good, or maybe hanging upside down.

Why does this thread remind me of Shrinky-Dinks??

Did a fair amount of time in traction in my younger days - trust me, it gets old in a hurry (but it beats being paralyzed from the neck up and the waist down).
Alternative that works pretty well for me - I have an ab chair - don't know how much it does for my abs but it allows for a fabulous back arch that feels great.

If you want to be taller, you could always take a trip to outer space.
Humans grow taller in space. On Earth, gravity keeps the vertebrae in our spines closer together, but in space this gravitational effect wears off and the vertebrae spaces out, allowing our spines to elongate by approximately 3 inches. Source

Muscles atrophy in zero gravity, not to mention that muscle acts on bone development,so with no muscle our bones would be?
In space with zero gravity even if we had oxygen, we would lead very short on unhealthy lives. Something to contemplate as people talk about humans exploring and living beyond planet earth.

I just had a bone density done this past week. I've lost 2.5 inches over the years. At this rate by the time I'm 60, I'm going to be 4'2".
Ok, so in some respects that might increase my dateability...except that I bite.
