My major pet peeve on this site is people who do not respond to an initial email. I know our mamas raised us to be polite, so I'm wondering.....what would be so difficult for people to write back and say "thanks for the note, but I'm not interested" rather than just sending notes to the trash folder. I suppose we're all guilty of this at one time or another, but I try to respond to all who write to me. It just seems like the courteous thing to do. Your thoughts?

Well I do try to respond to the winks..and to the emails even if its a quick thank you...and let them know I`m not interested....However my Pet peeve is when I give a polite refusal...and the return letter is nasty..I actually had a fella propose to me and when I turned him down politely he became rude and obnoxious...calling me names..
And your right it is common courtesy to at least send a polite refusal..

Yep, that's when I block them. I try to be polite, and occasionally I goof, but I think I've responded to at least 99% of the emails I've received (that weren't downright nasty to start with).

I also believe in using manners and will respond to any emails I am sent.. which is not many these days .. and that is ok too.
I agree. it's just rude not to at least acknowledge that someone took the time to send an email... doesn't take but a few to answer.

I've gotten to the point to where if someone doesn't respond it's like ...Next! I've gotten emails and responded and then gotten no reply back. Who knows what is going on in someone elses mind or even if they have one.
My pet peeve is: Why do people start a thread and then get defensive if someone post in disagreement? Did they, honestly, expect everyone to agree with them??
Oh, Ohhh, another one: Why can't people be more accepting of others opinions without getting in the attack mode?
Hope I didn't get here.
Great thread, Roger!!

My pet peeve is when the dog goes outside to do his thing
and then licks itself, then it comes in and the owner lets the
dog lick their face. Don't they realize they are just trying to
clean off their tongue- their way of brushing their teeth.

Welllll... I never used to write to people that I wasn't interested in starting up a conversation with, but then I heard that it was considered rude by some to not respond, so I worked up an as-nice-as-I-could-make-it refusal note and that's what I send now. But, I have to admit, personally I would much rather take the hint of no response than a 'canned' rejection letter. And I don't understand why a simple non-response is more rude and less obvious than an outright refusal. If I write to someone and he doesn't write back, it's fairly obvious to me what the score is - try as I might, I can't imagine why I should be offended by that. peace. =)

Yep, I see it. It's kinda like when Uncle Ralph at the family reunion would throw out a topic for his four brothers to discuss, knowing full well it'd get them going. Then Ralph would just sit back and watch. And grin the entire time.

personally, i would prefer not to get an answer than a rejection. it amounts to the same thing, anyway. i am one that is guilty of not responding to an email if i am not interested, on occasion. i have responded to some, the ones i don't bother responding to are the ones that are married and looking for someone on the side.

RAY i agree 100 percent about people who kiss and let dirty animals lick their faces.
Its like the old story about the guy who wanted to see if
his wife really loved him so he peed on the dining room rug as her dog did but instead of kissing him like the dog she rubbed her husbands nose in it.
I see women doing it all the time and they have no idea how filthy the animals are.

i dont bother to respond if i dont wanna. i especially dont when they ask something idiotic that's covered in my profile. they're not showing the best of manners; they're also showing they aint that bright. i'm sure they get over that i didnt write them and sent the same letter (different names of course) to the next woman to whom he's pledged eternal love.

well i have a pet peeve but it has to do with laundry and i guess that would be off the topic being discussed.
Let's face it rejection sucks, no matter how we do it or have it done. Laudry on the other hand just goes on and on.
enjoy the day, ken

I used to have alot of "Pet Peeves", but I have come to the conclusion that people are people and now matter how much it may bother me with their habits, it's their habits. I have better things to do than to let other people annoy me.

I always reply, even if it takes me a while. I even respond to my winks. Again, it takes time, because sometimes they come in abundance.
I just spoke with one of our forum friends today. She was talking about a very attractive man she had written, and he had not replied. Turned out, he had written my best friend, who is my age. He is pretty young. My best friend deleted his email.
I told my forum friend to write again and see what might happen. He wrote her back immediately and apologized. He said he had evidently not seen her original email, and he was very flattered she had written a second time.
Just goes to show--you never know.
