Do you dwell in the past or look towards the future at this age

I find myself thinking more about my past while letting my future take it's own course...with me in the backseat just going along for the ride and the sights.

My family is dearer to me now than they were in the past and the occasional death of a family member or relative has more of an impact now at this age...for a part of me goes with them as they were beloved icons of my past.

Friends from my past are more important than the friendships i will cultivate in the future as they are mirrors to what i was and now have become and i too for them..they will always embrace me no matter what my age whereas the world perceives the 'aging' in a harsher more distant light at times.

I am not resistant to change but i am anchored to my past...who i was
is whom i will be..

Always hold the past dear, but always, always look to the future.

I definitely look towards the future - I've tried to face the person in the mirror honestly, and worked hard at developing the things I liked and controlling the things I didn't. I like me better than I used to, although in one way I'm exactly the same as I was at 16 - I still haven't decided what I want to be when I grow up. I changed goals every week or two -chemist? physicist? singer? pianist? career mom?; and now a total reversal - ardent camper and wildlife photographer. And I truly doubt this is the end of my evolution...but yes, I value my memories of the past, and one of my roles is now the keeper of the family history, since I spent the most time talking to the family elders and heard stories that others never did. It's kind of odd realizing that now I'm one of those elders.

I find this to be sooo true....

this..not so much..as..for me.. when each year passes...I find that I have grown.. and have gone further down the path...

and some of my old friends have grown also..but in different directions...different paths...which is ok...

...but..some of the people I meet now and in the future...are important.../or will be....

I always look forward. I don't dwell on the past, it's the road I traveled to get to where I am in life now. I am continually moving forward. I still have bumps in the road, an accident now and then. Sometimes I take the wrong fork in the road. But I enjoy the ride and take in the view along the way, always open to new adventures.
