I've read so many comments on here regarding being older and at your happiest and I can't relate.
Being over 50/60 is not the best thing that has ever happened to me. I don't want to be 21, again, but... I'm surprised by the people, my age, that say this is the best time of their lives. I don't think being over 50/60 is a plus. Something that has to be dealt with true...but the best time of my life...uhhh... NOPE. My gosh, we are whether we like it or not...old(er)
So, care to share?

child rearing is finished, retirement is closer, not concerned with the 'keeping up" with Suzy next door thing. Its no longer a life shattering experience to spend Saturday night without a date, good friends are truly ones greatest riches, have already heard most all the lines men use,,and i know a heck of a lot more about life than i did when i was younger.

yes this is the best time in my life, i make my own fun since there's no one here to share it with. my only neighbbor is crazy/angry. the town flirt is 86 and although really cute, just not my type.
am i wiser, hell i don't know, the kids at least listen now when i have "dad moments" and offer advice.

Happy for those of you to whom that applies...
I am pleading temporary insanity for starting this thread.
I can do that, right? Well, of course I can, I just did.

I'm not 50 but will be 49 in May...
I find that you think less with whats between your legs...and for that reason alone make better choices :) and it becomes more about the other person your with not who you can "Get With" :)
So I guess I get choosey in my age..
I'm also more sure of myself... less shy...and thicker skinned.. which are all plus's in this world of ours..
I learned that my choice not to smoke early in my life was the right choice (by looking at classmates at reunions)
I also learned...if it ain't right in the beginning...walk away..No instant attraction..walk away..No Fireworks...walk away..Life is to short and mine is Half over already :)

yes I am wiser about many things, the rest, well life is an ongoing learning experience. I am one of those that do enjoy being the age that I am presently. I think it all really has to do with being happy with oneself reguardless of age,and that was one of the toughest lessons I had to learn .

Unfortunately my "golden years" have rusted. The only thing I get for being older is alone, and arthritis. Not fun in my opinion but to those who ARE enjoying their lives .... more power to you. I'd love to have some fun but don't see any in my future.

Well, I hope it gets easier for those of you who are finding it tough going...just bear in mind that everything's relative...
For me, at various times in my life I've been paralyzed, stalked, raped, abused and broke. Right now I'm pretty much pain free compared to ten years ago (found that strength training fixed the lifelong back problems that resulted from the accident that temporarily paralyzed me as a teenager), I'm solvent, have people I love who love me and finally have enough time and money to do some fun stuff instead of the balancing act of work and home. Sure I'd love to find a man to love, who'll love me too...but relatively speaking, I can only be very grateful to be where I am as opposed to where I've been.

Absolutely. And the gals over 50 look the best too. Heck some of them are on this page......you know you look good.
Even though I feel the constraints of aging a little. Started a exercise regimen sore as haillllll from doing lunges.....can't help it though I want to look good 'cause I spend a lot of time on my butt due to the job. I gotta work harder on the temple.....its important to not go to seed.

The best times of my life were when I go fishing anytime I felt, fill up the car I bought new for $1900 with .25 gas,run faster than anyone else in the county, sleep for only an hour and be ready for a new day and take girls that were 16 to a necking session at the outdoor theatre..
When I was 16.

Mentally & emotionally...Yes...best time of my life is every new day...
And physically...well, except for the wisdom & character imprinted on my face... I am in pretty much the same if not better shape than I was @ 28!! I can still win @ *Twister*.
A better attitude has arrived... Looking to the positive instead of worrying about the negative... Taking events as learning experiences... Realizing what an important role I play as an example to my children & peers...
carpe diem
oh hell...carpe everything you possible can!!

Wow, I think that's such an overused excuse like the overused "blonde moment" which women use for an excuse to be a blooming idiot or to manipulate.

See, you're STILL acquiring facts that lead to 'wisdom'.
And this IS a good time of life...no responsibility -- except to and for myself, so if I want to put away my tools and unfinished projects for awhile, I can just take off with a weeks notice for a month and a half or so in the Caribbean. Matter of fact, I'm just gonna do that. It's the "why not?" time of life.
