I did go out and try meeting someone a little while ago. I had to take a friend to the Social Security Office. Saw a young very cute woman there with her mother (heard her call the older woman "Mom")... Finally worked up my nerve when she went out to smoke and walked out and started talking to her....
Things were going well, we got along great..she was super friendly and I gave her my cell phone number. She mentioned Phoenix and so just before we went back inside, I asked "Oh you lived in Phoenix?" She said, "Yes, I was in prison there for a while...the cops found the warrant for the Grand Theft Auto when they picked me up for Soliciting"... Sigh...
This has been my luck with going up and talking to women ROFL... You could fill a huge stadium with women of all ages and sizes and sure as heck I would walk in and home right in on the one woman in there who would be the worst for me or have the worst background. Well I figure I will let bygones be bygones so when she called me, I asked her out for a lunch date. We ate and then she said, "Why don't we go back to your place and have sex."... OK..well I just met her, just asked her out..still don't know the woman from Eve...and she wants to go have sex. I made up some excuse about my roommate not allowing me to bring women home...and she said "Oh well, the next date we can rent a hotel room and I will bring the drugs."...heh heh...
Just shoot please... put me out of my misery..LOL

Who says you need to shave to go to Walmart? You certainly don't want to look like you're there with the purpose in mind of meetin women. LOL!
Are decent clothes too much effort when wanting to make a good impression? Nothing fancy, just not indecent and not sloppy.

I'm not quite there, yet, but come January I'll be on the Top 50 charts 
Being the resident nanny, Girl Friday, head cook and bottle washer  I don't get out much, hence my quest on sites like MD .... I've been paying weekly visits to the Library (heh heh, you'd be surprised at the influx of interesting looking gents there; but I refuse to be caught soliciting 'round the romance section LOL ) and grocery shopping on the weekends is fast becoming a major social event!! 
So onward ever, and remember the ole try, try, try ..... Good luck ALL.

I just used the dating sites, was on the pay sites and the free dating sites. One I really liked was Plentyoffish, met and dated some really nice guys from that site, and met my present bf there as well. Another favorite was the Yahoo dating site, you had to pay but there were some nice quality guys on that one.

Festivals. I like going places to watch festivals. Every once in a while I will approach a gal, but I like it better when they approach me. Gals who have a little "go for it" make for a better time usually. The aggressive gals are alot more fun, and ya already know they are single.
