In my experience, almost every woman thinks they are fat, even the really toned hard body types will talk about wanting to lose weight. So it's not a stretch to see a medium sized woman claim to be a BBW, it's all in the head, and the image you have of yourself.

I guess you have a point.
I went along for years thinking I was just fine until other folks started telling me I was too big (most of these people were related to me).
The thing is I was smaller then
If I knew then what I know now

You can't live to please other people, if you are happy with yourself, that's what matters. No matter how you look, someone can always find fault with you. Too fat, too skinny, too short, too tall, hair too curly, hair too straight, etc. Please yourself, and you'll be happy.

Too true!
I just read a blog by Angel about finding our bodies good points. She mentioned a British show called Looking Good Naked and the host finds your positive points and dresses you to emphasize them. One thing BBW or curvy women tend to do is hide themselves under big clothes which makes us look bigger.
Think I'll go take some clothes in

Not me, I still like my big baggy clothes. I'm just too uncomfortable in tight things. And I dress very casually because of my job, but I do have some tighter, sexier looking clothes to wear on dates. Now where can I find one of those???

MsLani...I looked at your profile and your are a beautiful woman! I don't think I'm fat, but I am realistic enough to know I have something to hold onto..Lol I'm not tiny, slim, or petite, but I'm ok with the way I am. Of course at my age I'd like to be healthy and tone up...and that is what I'm doing....for me. For as many men that want a tiny lil thing..there are as many that like a little meat on the bones too! Whoever I end up with will love me just the way I am...
I suppose variety is the spice of life...

I just read a blog by Angel about finding our bodies good points. She mentioned a British show called Looking Good Naked and the host finds your positive points and dresses you to emphasize them. I've been seeing the ads for that show and they showed a preview with the ladies standing in their underwear. It is strange for most women to see pics of women in their underwear who aren't skinny actresses or models so there eventually comes a time that most of us look at ourselves in the mirror and think we're fat and unattractive. I mentioned earlier that men seem to be less judgmental about women's bodies but that's probably because they have actually seen real women naked and probably most of them aren't perfect. I'm really interested in watching the show because it might be good for me and probably most women to get a more realistic idea of what women look like when they're not perfect. I love British shows because many of their leading actresses aren't young, skinny, and beautiful. Average looking women play romantic leads. That rarely happens in American movies. I can't wait for "How to Look Good Naked" to come out.
Edited to add: I guess that show is already on British tv. What I've been seeing the ads for is the American spin-off that will air in January.

Thanks Spring!!!
Candy, I haven't seen the commercials but I hope the US show is as good as the British one. The host is what makes the British one so good.
THe US is so into size, I hope they don't mess it up!
Here's a clip of the show's host on a interview show. Also has clip of what he does. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fq__xI5fe2U&feature=related

I know this is the "Life After 50" forum, but sometimes I check it out.
I just want to say, that the "thin freaks" often harp on and on about how "Europe is so much healthier", when truthfully...they are in about the same boat as we are, especially France, England, and Italy.
My therapist went over to France and went to a nude beach. All the FRENCH women there, not the American women mind you, were about 300 lbs and flaunting their bodies like they were the sexiest things there.
My friend Megan from Soc class said that her sister went over to England to live for awhile...she's about a size 2 and none of the guys will date her because they think she looks anorexic...but when she comes back here, all the guys go crazy.
America really is all about size...and it's sad because there are so many people that fall victim to it.
I've realised that since my body became a more average size as opposed to a "big" size, people are nicer to me. Men besides my boyfriend look at me and smile at me, even though I supposedly always "had a pretty face". Even my friends are more interested in hanging out with me more. Can you believe that?
My friends in England and Pakistan never really cared what size I was....

Well, looks change with age, bodies change with age, and if guys are just looking at the looks and the bodies, and love and marry for that, when the aging happens, they are left with something they might not like, lol.

I know that looks are important to men and we should all do our best to stay healthy and look our best within reasonable limits. What I don't want to do is feel that I have to make myself over into someone completely different to try to attract a man who is more focused on how I look attached to his arm rather than the kind of person I am. I would be absolutely thrilled if someone developed a pill that wasn't harmful which would speed our metabolisms up so that we could all go back to the sizes we were as teenagers, but I'm not willing to starve myself completely to get back to that size which is what I have to do. I'm perfectly willing to exercise every day and watch what I eat, but I'm not willing to be anti-social and avoid all parties and invitations to eat out just to stay thin. I've done that in the past to lose and maintain my weight but I'm not in the mood to do that at this particular moment in my life. Maybe my priorities will change again and being skinny will be the most important thing to me, but I want a man who thinks I'm just fine regardless of the size I happen to be at any particular moment in time.

Yes I am sure the term BBW will put some men off. But would you want those men anyway?

I find that over the years my opinions are changing and rapidly too. For a long time I was skinny as a rail, but this past few years I have gained weight. it isn't tons or anything, but on me it's a radical change. The first real love I ever had was heavy and it was like a stick and an orange beside each other then i meet a lot of slim women and finally lived with one for 22 years and she left me out of the blue. Now I'm getting what I call a grandpa gut, but I have to face reality and admit I'm slowly getting up there myself, but it isn't all that bad. For a very long time i wondered what i would look like with some weight on me and now I know.. I know I should lose it, but I'm not that unhappy with the extra pounds. Now, if I'm gaining weight it's a bit tough to sit and criticize a woman for the same thing I'm becoming. After a few years of being alone I'm finding a little extra weight to not be all that bad, but like someone else posted, there are limits. I guess with me it's all relative to my own weight, but I'm still very much single so it's tough to say one way or another until I actually get out there to date again. I seem to have forgotten how to begin, but I'm getting closer.. We'll see, but as far as friendship goes there are no real limits. beauty is only skin deep. But like Nipsy Russel once said, "Beauty is only skin deep, but ugly is clear to the bone." By the way, ugly is how you treat others and yourself.

Hmmm... I don't want to upset anyone by saying something perceived as cruel or insensitive. But... (of course, otherwise why would I start out that way?)
I'm not a large person myself. My ex-wife was about 6 inches shorter than I was, and I don't believe ever once weighed less than I did throughout the entire time I knew her. For most of the time, she was about a size 18-20 at 5' 1" (about 185-200 lbs). So, there is a kind of "been there, done that" mentality at work here. Unfortunately, when I think of being intimate with someone 5' 6" or 5' 8" and over 220 pounds, my mental images tend to run toward being unable to breathe. Being blunt, getting crushed isn't my idea of a good time. Hoping this isn't TMI, when I think about my next lover, I'd like to be able to enjoy a full pallete of intimate acts, and with someone that much larger than myself, there are too many variations that become more logistical than erotic. And I have to admit that like most men, I was raised on visual images and I just tend to find someone a little slimmer more appealing visually. (A size 10-12 is about right.)

I am wondering what classifies a BBW? I am about 40 pounds overweight and never really considered myself a BBW until the other day someone sent me an email here on MD commenting on my picture and how he liked BBWs....And if there are any of you guys who like BBWs close to Atlanta, give me a shout!!

BBW means to me . big bad woman . the ones 220 are MORE wild in bed . and KNOW how to keep there man happy . those 130 . think men want them for sex only . I was with a woman who was 220 . she kept saying " do you think I look . " I look fat to him . " I told her NO WAY .I want to be with you 24/7 well , she is not with me .
