My father just bought a house down there, so I was a bit curious.

LOL My daughter has heard of the scorpions, so now she is afraid to even go visit. Are they really that prevalent? What do you do about them?

I'm in Phoenix, and central a/c's a given Steve, but I'd recommend swamp coolers. Humidity's so low here in the desert that I only use a/c in monsoon (July/August). The rest of the year's a heck of a lot easier on my electric bill with the evaps.

That's what I said too! It's an evaporative cooler...believe it or not, 'dry heat' really is different. The swamp (or evap, or evaporative) cooler has water run into it, and except for monsoon (higther humidity) season, it keeps the house plenty cool using very little electricity.

sunscreen, tank top, shorts, swim-suit, are the basics
towel on car seat or you'll burn your thighs, expect to carry a water bottle with you 24-7, Tucson is windier & cooler than phoenix, comfy sandals, if your going to visit any attraction, old western towns, airplane museum, bio-sphere, Nogales MX. for shopping, if you want to drive to the ocean in Mx, bring your birth certificate or passport., horseback ride you need boots or tennis shoes & jeans & hat
it's all about what you want to do here , if your a shopper bring an empty suitcase
while your here go to a restaurant callled oreganos & get the dessert pizza it's really a "hot out of the oven cookie" with ice cream on top eaten with a spoon http://www.oreganos.com

RFLMAO I don't think I will be going anywhere near the Mexican border. Even before all this controversy over illegals coming across, I was eyeballed funny and barely made it back to the states. Even with my passport I don't know if those morons would let me come back home these days.
For the most part, sure sounds like the exact same routine as you would go through going to the Caribbean. Oh well, at least I won't be struggling to find something decent to eat here in the US. I am ASSUMING there are still normal grocery stores down there and not every expiration date has to be examined LOL
BUT, Pa told me that their friend just found a rattlesnake in her back yard the other day, so I guess I should be asking what the local gun laws are like as well. Boots or belts for anyone interested the first time I see one.

*peeks head in to thread and waves at HeavenInAWildflower*

Im gonna have to say dont walk barefoot on the blacktop.or the whitetop. :)
Just dont go barefoot unless you like blisters on your feet :D

Cooking eggs on your car DOES work, but wreaks havoc on your paint (and they never QUITE get done the way I like them....)

Havent seen a scorpion or a rattlesnake since i lived in California! Eeeep!

Wow, starting to be really glad I have about 20 pairs of boots. How do you check them before you put them on to make sure nothing crawled in (that happened to a friend who was down there years ago)? Do you shake them, use a flashlight...?
