Need Help in Arizona: especially baby items

I'm not asking for money or anything, but what I am asking for is information first and unwanted items second.

There is a family in Mammoth whose trailer burnt down. There is a young woman who is pregnant, her husband, his mom, and all her dogs. The Red Cross was less than helpful.

They are trying to find a cheap place to live in Tucson. They are going to need furniture probably. And since a baby is on the way, they are definitely going to need baby things.

I have contacted members of freecycle and Catholic Social Services for them, but so far have gotten no response.

Is there anyone in the general Tucson, Oracle, Oro Valley, San Manuel, Mammoth area of Arizona that knows of good places to contact to get help for these people?

And, is there anyone in those areas who has high chairs, cribs, younger baby clothes, smallish maternity clothes, shoes, clothing, baby dishes, baby blankets, etc. that they are no longer needing, maybe were going to give to a thrift shop anyway?

Thanks for reading this.

The Red Cross told them that if they find a place to live, they would help them get some furniture from a thrift store. No food, no blankets, no band aids, no place for shelter, not even a port a potty, nothing else.

Hi Hopeless

Try contacting St. Vincent DePaul for help. I did look up the number for them in Tucson and the ones I found are:

(520) 622-2822
820 S 6th Ave Tucson, AZ 85701-2625

(520) 323-0734
5426 E Pima St Tucson, AZ 85712-3634

I am not sure about St. Vincent DePaul in Tucson, but here in the valley if you are in need, many times they will help out with first and last month rent and will let a family go into their thrift store and take everything they need to set up a new home for free. I belong to a non-profit organization that works with the local group here and they are some of the nicest people.

Another group you might go to is the Salvation Army. I don't know as much about them as St. Vincent DePaul but I have heard of good things about them too.

I hope this helps!

Mari

There is an apartment complex next to the Foothills mall that takes Section 8 and Most of the people love it there you can also have pets. It's on Ina on the west side of the Mall. The rent my friend pays is about 200 and he is disabled and I think they are asking 500 for two bedroom. If they get really desperate there is a homeless womens sheter that is painted orange on Miracle Mile and is next to the bowling alley. The hurry up your claims if your Pregnant ,so go to DES. QUICK!

There's something I just heard about called Freecycle - it's online and it's a Yahoo user group, grass roots and totally free. Once you register (include your zip code) you'll get an email back acknowledging you, and then you start getting emails about all kinds of things people are giving away rather than throwing away. You can also request specific items - I've only been on there a few days but there've been plenty of baby items offered. This is for the Phoenix area but I'm sure it's just as active down south. Good luck!

Thank you - ALL OF YOU - for some good advice. I've already figured out some of that for myself and am still working on other bits. Just wanted to let you know that I do appreciate the input and I am not ignoring you. I've just been ill, lately, and haven't even been blogging or anything much for a while now.

Thanks!

Yes I was going to recommend Freecycle on yahoogroups also - I didnt get much out of them since they jsut didnt have any upper end items that I wanted so I quit the group probably after a month but hopefully they will be able to help - good luck - I wish I had baby stuff but that was way too many years ago
