Hello Matchdoctor staff, this is Earl47,

I do not understand something, even though i am a html master website builder, how can i possibly learn the full use of this BB code, the only way i know, is a way that wouldn't be practical. To keep trying would only be wasting web space, and the wasting of web space is not in your best interest. I could go buy a book on it i suppose, but i also feel it is not other members job to sit and teach me this BB code.

Here's what i need, a storage space, angelfire in one i used to use, or one liked by MD, but why learn this code by doing it the wrong way until i discover the right way, when the right way can simply be put on two large pages. Here's what i want, i want a small sig type size 4 text signature and a size 2 font in either french script or lucida handwriting if possible. But it is wasting webspace for me to learn by doing it in experiemental ways....Thank you....Earl

I have HomeSite, on my old puter. I used to love using that program. It has been several years. I pretty much forget a lot of that stuff. I used AngelFire too, Earl. It was a good site to upload to. I forget what FTP, WTP, or whatever it was called, I used for uploading.

Someone needs to refresh my memory. I have tried using my HTML and JavaScript books but we have to tweak the code here, in order to get it to work properly. It is a VERY simple code though, once you figure out the technique.

Can you put a sample code you are trying in a post? Use these { }, and I/we can see what it looks like. That way, maybe each of us can look it over and tell you what you need to change. You definitely need to use the brackets though [ ], that much I do know.

Does AngelFire allow hot-linking anymore? I know Tripod doesn't...

First off, i know where you can get a free file transfer protocol.. Just download Explorer FTP, it;s free, and works 10 times better than cute ftp than goes for around 60 dollars, i know to use the [[ ubb code brakets in here, but i noticed on MD's source page, they are still using my html with brackets, why can't we just use that?.. I'll have to double check with tripod and angelfire

http://www.ftpx.com/dlprogress_home.htm

Go to the above link to get your free FTP, guess what, me and Janet40 and hank built that site!!

BB ("Bulletin Board") code ( [ ] brackets) is converted to regular HTML ( with < and >) into their script/source code. HTML can't be used by members, only the MD techies/programmers. I believe that's to prevent members from going overboard with their posts and also to prevent malicious programming codes from being used.

I think the site's "bones" are written in Java Script, anyway.

For most people, there really isn't a need for their own FTP...we're not building webpages, just linking pics and graphics (which is free on http://www.image-shack.com and http//:www.photobucket.com). The other BB codes have to be entered manually for now.

Here's the link of MatchDoctor's instructions:

(lucida handwriting doesn't seem to work -- not all fonts do)

I don't think we have midi capabilities yet, Earl, so that one may have to be put on the back burner. I DID try the "font color", but you can't use it here. Won't work. You have to use {font=whateverstylefont}, and the {font}{/font} code MUST be the INNER code. You can wrap it with "color" and "size" preferences.

SunBabe gave an example, and I also gave one last night, in the thread below this one. Forget the name. I'll find it and paste it here.

Here it is. It's in the "Latest Features" thread:

{size=8}{color=Tomato}{font=Script}Your Text Goes Here.{/font}{/color}{/size}

Replace these { } with these [ ]. A lot of the font styles aren't working yet. Still practicing.

To add: The {font}{/font} must be the INNER set of brackets.

These have worked for me.

Script

Earl, I have an FTP for a website I run...it's not at ALL necessary for BB codes -- honest

I tend to agree with SunBabe, but they are fun for playing around. Not necessary though. I have also peeked at a lot of Source Codes, but they don't help much. You can't use that format here. It just plain won't work. You can find out some font styles and colors though.

I finally went and copied some color codes from a good site, and I still need a better site that provides some decent font style codes. The one I printed out isn't cutting the cake.

There is nothing to "hold", Earl. Unless you mean graphics/smilies/photos that you want to link to. Is that what you're asking?

In that case, simply upload/store to either of the sites mentioned above (they're free) or hotlink from wherever you choose.

Good eyes, SunBabe!

Thanks for pointing out my mistake. I meant...

{font=whateverstylefont}Text Goes Here. {/font}

I shouldn't have put "whatevercolor" in between those buggers. Didn't mean to confuse you, Earl. I went and edited my post.

The sites SunBabe mentioned are image-shack, and PhotoBucket. I have to give credit to Sun. She has walked me through most all of the steps. It if wasn't for her, I would still be at square one.

I'm using image-shack. You can load one at a time. It is free, and if you register, your images will be saved for you. You can change the size to thumbnail there, and once you have saved, you normally use the "forums" link and copy/paste.

Hope it helps.

GIRLFRIEND!!!! You never cease to amaze me! Lovin' it! Printing your "selection" of fonts. You have saved me lots of time doing a search. Fantastica!!!!

French Script code coming right up!

{size=5}{color=#6666FF}{font=french script mt}Earl's French Script code, size 5, color#6666FF{/font}}/color}{/size}

Earl's French Script code, size 5, color#6666FF

Of course you can change it to any shade of blue that you want by replacing the color # or using the html-compatible color name...

Ask, and ye shall receive. Go to the other thread...um...the "Latest Features" thread. I posted the names, in color, the way you need to input them. I have several more, but I have been trying to locate the darker ones. Some just don't work well, because we can't change the background, in order to make them stand out more.

{size=5}{b}{color=#6666FF}{font=french script mt}Earl's French Script code, size 5, color#6666FF{/font}}/color}{/b}{/size}

Earl's French Script code, size 5, color#6666FF

put the "B" between size and color at both ends, Earl...just copy/paste the above and change the brackets...it should work (and then copy your code to a wordpad document so that you can grab it anytime )

THAT's what I'm forgetting!!!! Is the {b} {/b} ABSOLUTELY necessary? Maybe that is why I was having so much trouble last night. Back to experimenting.

Here are some more colors for you:

This color is Gainsboro.
This color is Darkgreen.
This color is Darkgray.
This color is Indigo.
This color is Cadetblue.
This color is Darkcyan.
This color is Chocolate.
