As many of you have noticed, there is now a very simple voting system in the blog section now. We do want to think of a better name for this, as we don't really consider it to be a true voting system.
The concept of the system is to give "props" to blogs that you connect with or thought were really well done. Some of you think a voting system is bad, but please hear our idea behind this one. We think the system will work because of its general rules.
You will receive max 5 votes a day. With such a low number, you can only place votes on a very very small percentage of blogs. (Basically you can only do a very small amount of damage  ) This should entice you to "spend" your votes wisely. Maybe you felt really connected with a particle blog or it made you feel good and you want to give it "props", so you click the smile face and the vote count goes from 0 to 1. If someone else reads the blog and they thought it was worth "props", they click the smile and the vote count goes to 2. If someone else however really thought it wasn't worthy of 2 props they can spend one of their votes and bring the vote back down to 1, but that uses one of their votes. Because of the limited number of votes and user community aspect, it will allow you guys to highlight some of that extra "special" content here on Matchdoctor.
Now, after writing this post, I actually think a good name for the system is "props"

oooops  , I thought I answered most of the questions with this post so I zapped them since it brought the other thread off topic. Please re-post or post any new questions/comments.

so, the first person to do a negative vote on a blog, still counts as a vote for that blog, and no one knows if its positive or negative?

If you vote positive, then the number goes up, if you vote negative then the number will go down. So if 100 people voted on a blog, half up and half down, the "props" would be 0 still. So you never know how many total votes were cast. This means it is possible to get a negative number of props.

Nope, it is totally anonymous.
Another reason for giving negative props would be if you see someone that is obviously spamming the blog page to get attention or posting inappropriate content.
We're still thinking of names for the system, as we don't like "votes" either. Currently we have "props", but would like some more options. So get those gears turning, we're open to suggestions

with the 5 votes per day, if one does not use all 5 that day, are they cummulative or ?
kudos, hmmmmmmmmm, a much overused word in the english language - should be something more unique and fitting for this site

Here are the questions I had put in the other thread. Looks like some of them were addressed, but will we ever see a number in the minus category? Or does it only go to zero?
I'm thinking each day our votes go back to five, and the votes not used are not cumulative...right?
My "Suggestions" thread questions said:
I don't totally understand the point system either (props). I guess they are anonymous votes, and I (the receiver) has to open up the individual blog, in order to see it...right? How do we know which blog received the vote without opening up each of the blogs and viewing it? Also, I have one vote. How do I know if that is a positive vote or a negative vote? If it were negative, would it have shown a -1?

Hey MD, this voting thing is yet another good idea you guys have.  And I agree, I think "props" is a better name for it....or kudos By the way, I want to let you know that I appreciate all the hard work you have been doing. Because of this, this site is way better than any paid site! ...and it just keeps getting better and better! - thanks to you guys. Again, I appreciate everything. I think we all do.

We didn't have the kudo replenish program running, but it's up and running now. Those of you that had 0 should start to see some kudos pop up for you as you use the site.
We also just put up a big FAQ on kudos, click here! Should help answer a lot of your questions.

That is correct, your kudos are not cumulative. What ever your max kudos are, that's the max you can have at any one time. In the beginning of this thread I mentioned you will get 5 kudos, but as we build upon the system, we are going to create a "trust" system. Over time you will be able to increase your max kudos you can have or even loose them. It will take us some time to build this algorithm though.

Your "faq" link is giving me a "resource can't be found" message. Can you check it out? I haven't looked over the questions/answers again, so I'm probably asking for a second time, but the person receiving "kudos" can receive MORE than five a day?
Then, if you delete the blog that has received "kudos", they also get trashed, right?
Will there ever be a minus (-1, -2, etc.) category? I think you said there wouldn't. I thought I saw something about the points going back to zero.
I would imagine most of these answers are in your "faqs".

A blog can receive as many kudos as is given to it by users. As a user, you're limited in the number of kudos you can "give" to blogs in a day.
When I say kudos "you" receive, i'm referring to the number of kudos our system provides you with to give to other blogs. You're not actually giving kudos to a user per say, but to the blog entry itself.

Yes, it is possible that blogs can have a negative kudo count.

It's pesty me...back again. I have a request. As the recipient of the "kudos", in order to know if you have received any, you must open each individual blog. Can you put a "kudos" amount indicator next to the comment totals for each blog?
