Well pooh! I miss the bloggers pics, too!
And what's up with all the different colors on the profile names? I see blue, light blue, teal, maroon, hotpink.......

I can't figure out why so many are talking about the photos missing from blog pages... I haven't noticed any changes there other than the color coding and perhaps a slight format change.... And I've been on all week - that is, on and off each day.

I just answered my own question.. I realized that I never look at my home page - so I woldn't notice if the new blogs format changed there... duh. I always go right to the new blog page or to my favorites...
nevermind... PS. This is a great site - love the blogging aspect most of all - and appreciate how interactive the MD folks are . There's nothing else like it. Good work, all.

Hi Matchdoctor, it's me again. I know you're going to think I'm getting all particular just because you took the pictures off the front page, but I've noticed a glitch in your new system.
Often when someone posts a new blog the one they wrote before the new one pops up on the home page. Like, psychomagnet posted a new blog tonight about a movie, but on the homepage his post from Oct. 30 showed instead. The same thing just happened with a blog I posted.
You know, it just seems like too much hassle to fix this goofy little flaw, maybe you should go back to the old way?

HI MD--
Ok, could you at least explain the reason for taking the blog photos off?
Maybe we'll all do a better job accepting this if we understand your needs..
Does it have anything to do with the War on Terrorism?

In the interest of keeping blogs from becoming fora, perhaps you could limit the comment to one per member on each blog -- or one per member per day...sorta like the limit on kudos. That would mean that people would have to really consider whether thay had said all they wanted about the blog and it would curtail the back and forth ugliness or backslapping that seems to go on in so many comment sections. In addition, it would keep a blog from hitting the most popular just because two or three people get a line of chat going on in the comments of a blog. (I have actually played that little game myself...)
Thank you for keeping this site a fresh and vital place.
Oh...and that feature of showing the blogs on which people have commented...I hope you are still working on that.

I agree Lacy something needs to be done. MD is not a happy place at the moment. So many are upset with the constant fighting and attention getting silliness here.

Lacy makes a pretty good point about the comments.. so many of the "popular" blogs on the front page (which is where most of these attention seekers try to get their blogs cited on) are the ones where maybe 5 or 6 people keep commenting and this really does belong in the forum category. It becomes more like a chat between 5 or 6 people with them complimenting each other ad naseum. I think perhaps one comment per member in each blog they comment in would be lovely.
BTW, you Mods and MD are fantastic and have a bigger patience level than I do.. I keep seeing you guys posting in the blogs over and over again the rules and chastising those that are breaking them .. but in the end, they ignore you.. Kudos to you all....

I'd like to see an end to the "chatter blogs" too. I hate to think limits have to be enforced, but it's such a bore to be trying to read comments and then the Hi-jack takes place. Sometimes it's the OP who does it, often it's someone else, but -
with a few very entertaining exceptions, what a waste of space...
You'd think folks might actually want to participate in the forums from the way they are "blogging" these days - but as long as it takes several steps to find a thread, and the same dozen or so people keep hi-jacking forum threads, and thus few go there, no one is going to choose to go there when they can get all that attention on the blog page.
On the other hand... When this kind of thing happens, I don't usually bother with it. What do I care if they give themselves 300 views or 30 kudos? It's not like there's a trip to be won or an award at the end of the month...
And if limits on comments are made - it's likely to increase the number of battles taking place through blog wars, as many will feel they absolutely must take issue with this or that comment. Limits on comments will most assuredly cause many to stop allowing comments automatically.
The larger problem is that one cannot legislate good taste, tact and tempers nor can one raise the common denominator except by better participation. Limits may not be advantageous to the site, if it is dependent upon numbers rather than accolades to stay in business.

I am SO d@mn sick of the "popularity contest" and "attention whore" competition mentality...it degrades the entire intent of blogging.
...and have you noticed that if one single blog gets zapped or a suggestion is made that they "take it to the forums", there's an outcry of whimpering and whining and stomping of little feet?
I wonder if the tech guys could make it so that the mods or somebody could transfer a blog over to the forums (where 75% of them really belong). Or invent something to make the "chat" and "discussion" blogs invisible ~mwahaha~
(I did catch on to a new "trick" or two in blogland, which isn't exactly apparant )

I don't see photos missing.
I agree with Sunbabe that most blogs should be moved to the forums, or even deleted.
And I am with Lacy on limiting the amount of comments on blogs.
The author of the blog can edit their blog to answer any questions, or email people directly. There is no need for the author to comment/chat on the blog.
Jen- The issue you mentioned corrects itself in a few mins. I noticed that when you post a blog, your last one shows as the new one for a short while.

the photo thing happened way back in november, misschoos.
Oh...and that feature of showing the blogs on which people have commented...I hope you are still working on that. i understand that is one of those technical things that was seriously looked into, but that it'd be nearly impossible to implement since hundreds of comments per day come and go at the whim of the individual bloggers. comments (and their proposed links) aren't "permanent" and the database would be constantly spinning in circles (or something like that).
perhaps a tech can explain it better. scratch the word 'perhaps', lol. i'm only repeating what i absorbed when i asked the same question.
