Posts: 481 I was driving through Connecticut yesterday, and I noticed a very strange sign on the side of I-95. It read, "NO PASSING ON THE RIGHT". What does that even MEAN???

If a car is in the left lane doing 40mph, does that mean you should NOT go faster than 40? Is the Department of Transportation even THINKING when it puts these signs up???

Posts: 12,279 Is the law still "keep right except to pass"? And for years it was a law that you had to pass only on the left in Connectucut, never to pass on the right (no matter how slow the left lane driver is going) -- I can't remember if multi-lane interstate highways like 95 and 84 are exempt. Apparently not if that sign is there...I know you couldn't pass on the right on the parkways: a big no-no. (It's been a half dozen years since I moved from there, though.)

Posts: 1 The middle lane is the traveling lane, where you should normally be driving. If you're not, you're not driving on the highway correctly. The LEFT lane is for passing (because it's safer to pass on the left do to restrictions of vision). The right lane is ideal for slower vehicles.
