I have driven all over our little state here with friends and family and too often with strangers on the nod that at the end of our little quest or adventure lies a really good eating spot.
I was wondering if any of you could reccomend a good place to eat, be it a mom and pop or a good name brand local to FL or the neighboring states.
My pick to start things off is Tijuana Flats. Just type that name into Google and you will see what drives my tummy wild.
Here is a place that for about 10 dollars you can stuff a giant like me. They serve Mexican food, tacos , nachos and everything else under the sun.
Thing is they do not stop there, they are into EYE CANDY, the stores are covered with memorabilla and off trinkets, not to mention thousands of bottles of hot sauce.
They offer a hot sauce bar, as well. Where you can try a horde of different sauces, 2 of which you have to sign a waver to try, due to the heat. They own the rights to the hottest hot sauce in the US.
They even go as far as to allow their customers to take home ceiling tiles from each inidivdual store and paint it up with a unquie design about the store, which I have done twice now. Then they hang up the customized celing tiles so when you go, the roof is always different.
The portions are HUGE and the drinks bigger, and all the staff totally kicks ass. I mean to get my drift, google them. Just checking out their site is an adventure, a total one of a kind expirience on the web, pretty much shows you what you can expect from the resturant.

I just loved it for 1 you would always stuff yourself silly, 2 i usually went with a bunch of friends and it was a great time. 3 the good is so wonderful...i wish there was one closer to arkansas
there are a few other places if your interested

They have an all you can eat seafood buffet.
They had everything on it and the quality was good.
The last time we went the quality wasnt as good, the selection was about half the size and even though it was all you can eat, they limited how much you can take. For example I went to get some shrimp and they would only give you 10 at a time.

A lot depends on where you are and what you like.
I tend not to eat at chains, I love the Mom and Pops so much better. There is fantastic Asian and Cuban in Pinellas county. Great Itallian too.
If anyone in in the St Pete area and wants to know a good place to eat, I can give pointers!

Wing House in Orlando. Great food and miles better than Hooters.
Better looking ladies as a bonus.
They actually have good food rather than just eye candy.
I think the Wing House has basically raided every Hooters for it's waitresses.

You wanna get your tummy full with some really good Mexican? Try a restuarant, called the Tijuana Taxi Company on University just North of Griffin. Well, it's probably more Tex Mex. They really serve up some good food and very much of it too! When I go there I get the Sapo's Chicken Pasta dish. 'Tis my favorite on the menu! It's not exactly Mexican, but I get it because it's good!

well as there is a lot of Mex talk, DO NOT go to El Charros in Cocoa, or Roberto's in Cocoa beach... the first is run by a family of Cubans, and has been for 20 years...there is better Mex at the Aztec on US1, I asked at Charo's why they didn't do Cuban, was told when they moved her, it would not have sold...
as for Roberto's, I moved here from South FL 2 years ago, am used to GOOD Cuban food,, at this place I asked for the little breakfast pastries, you know, guava and cream chess.. or meat filled... they don't have, and when I said I thought you were a Cuban breakfast place... was told, yes, we are, but we are on Cocoa beach...lol

If you ever come to Tallahassee...the place to go is Cabo's!!!!
They serve a mix of caribbean and mexican type dishes as well as things that you'd associate with a health food store...like tofu and sprouts...lol
The decor is festive with ocean scapes all over the walls...a couple TV's loop surfers...and the owner collects old style surf boards which hang all over the restaurant....
The food is AWESOME and then some...and cheap...like a burrito that you'll take leftovers home is about $5-6 depending on the toppings...the margaritas are fantastic!!!
But my favorite is Sunday mornings for breakfast and a tofu costa rican(which you can get with eggs instead of tofu)...a bed of seasoned riced topped with black beans and homemade salsa...some tofu and sprouts served with warm tortillas...

EAngel speaks the truth , I had the privledge of eating at Cabos once it was all she says and then some. The Chain restaurants cannot even compare to the quality of food served there.

why thank you...lol...but i know any restaurant i mention can't hold a candle to my own cooking...lol.. :)~
but seriously..another couple of great places in Tallahassee are
a little hole in the wall called the Leaning Tower...it's great for lunch...Italian...from new yourk style pizza to baked pasta...to calzones...and also good servings...leftovers always...cheap too
they serve these fresh garlic twists...that are fresh maked twists with a mixture of italian seasonings, fresh garlic and warmed olive oil dumped over them...yum!
Jim and Milt's BBQ...great for breakfast(good sawmill gravy and biscuits) as well as lunch on any given day...and an icon of an FSU football weekend Sunday breakfast tradition...
and finally i'll mention Tiny's BBQ...would recommend getting it to go...but it's yummo! too

One of my FAVORITE florida eateries is Dixie Crossroads in Titusville. "The Home of Rock Shrimp" (the shrimp that tastes like lobster), Dixie Crossroads specializes in unique "Wild Ocean Shrimp" I love their Crab cakes too. Inside the dining rooms Dixie Crossroads is a virtual art gallery; large wildlife murals, photography, stained and etched glass, and even concrete sculptures that portray this region's unique habitats, plants and animals.
Outside you'll find plenty of artist wildlife murals, fishponds, fountains, waterfalls, and butterflies
